' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS \VALKER, OF llIRMlNGl'L Ul, ENGLAND.
CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,124, dated December 10, 1889.
Application filed May 3, 1889. Serial No. 309,463. (No model.)
To to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS WALKER, manufacturer, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Brook Street, in the city of Birmingham, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brace or Belt Attachments; and I do hereby de clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to two-part connections for braces or belts; and it consists in providing the fastening or securing means thereof with double studs released and fastened by double pusher actions.
4 Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings represents in front elevation a double stud and pusher-brace attachment constructed and an ranged according to my said invention. The two parts of the attachment in the said figure are shown connected and fastened together, and which are, as hereinafter described, designated, respectively, the levercarrier and the tab-carrier. Fig. 2 represents, partly in elevation and partly in horizontal section, the said two-part attachment, The sectional part exhibits how the double pushers embrace and grip the reduced necks of the studs and so fasten the two parts together. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the said brace attachment upon the dotted lines A B, Fig. 2. Fig. shows a horizontal section npon the dotted lines 0 D, Fig. 1, while Figs. 5 and 6 represent an elevation and edge view of the lever-carrier part of the attachment. Figs. '7 and 8 represent a horizontal and a vertical section of the tab-cal rier part of the attachment. Fig. 0 represents the said tab-carrier part with the pushers removed, while Figs. 10 and ll'represent the pushes separately. Fig. 12 represents my improvement applied to a belt.
The lever-carrier part of the attachment consists of an inclosed frame a, with lower part a made into the form of a plate, upon the front side of which two outstanding headed studs a are situated. The upper part of the said frame (6 carries a lever a with its upper and attachment end a connected to the frame part by joint-cen ters a. The tab-carrier part of the attachment c011- sists of an inclosed frame I), tab-barb and upper box part o wherein double pushers c 0 work, with their inner curved fastener parts 0 0 extending beyond or overlapping the op posite boundary edges of the all-through holes or piercings b wherethrough the heads and necks of the studs rearwardly pass and are there affixed by the fastener parts of the respective pushers taking under the heads. Directed upon opposite shoulders of the pushers the arms of a looped spring cl press, so that the pushers are pressed normally outward and with their fastener parts directed inward.
The spring for operating the pushers is inclosed within a curved seat formed out of the box portion of the tab-carrier. Thus to disconnect the lever-carrier part from the tabcarrier part simultaneously press inward the pushers, when the fastener parts 0 o of both pushers are taken from the necks of the studs, thereby allowing the tab-carrier to be removed. The liberation of the pushers by the thumb and finger causes the parts to resume their normal positions.
To secure the tab-carrier part to the levercarrierpart, bring the piercings of the former opposite the heads of the latter, when, on lateral pressure being applied, the pushers are forced inward and made to snap over the heads of the studs, thereby fastening the two parts together.
By constructing brace attachments as described the connection is made by double studs, which are affixed by double pushers, so that the pressing inward of one pusher has no effect in releasing the one part from the other.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a brace or belt fastening, the combination of the closed frame a, provided wit-h the plate a, carrying the headed studs a and the tab-carrier l), comprising the box b having stud-holes b" and containing the double pushers c 0, formed with fastening-studs c 0 and the spring (I, abutting against the In testimony that I claim the foregoing I ushers c c, substantially as described. have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of IO 2.
