JOHN SYLVESTER ATKINSON, OF REVETSTOKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
TUG-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 13, 1914.
Application filed November 18, 1912. Serial No. 731,959.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN SYLvEs'rnR AT- KINSON, of Revetstoke, in British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tug-Fasteners of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to a device for supporting the usual harness tugs when an animal is unhitched from a vehicle, and the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive, durable, and efficient device of this kind which can be fastened permanently to the crupper strap of a set of harness.
The invention consists essentially in a base piece supplied with two upwardly extending hooks, a post carried by the base piece and located centrally between the hooks, and springs carried by the post, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particularly described, reference being had to the accompanying drawmg 1n Whicl1 Figures 1 and 2 represent respectively a side and plan view of the device.
In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 represents a base piece supplied with suitable openings 2 and formed with two upwardly projecting hooks 3 and a having the ends thereof turned toward each other.
5 is a permanent post extending upwardly from the base piece and located midway between the hooks.
6 and 7 are two flat springs having the lower ends thereof permanently fastened to the base of the post, the body portions normally bearing against the ends of the hooks, and the upper ends bent inwardly and passing in opposite directions through a suitable opening 8 formed in the upper end of the post.
IV hen the article is to be used the base piece is fastened permanently to the amp per strap 9 by rivets 10 and 11 passing through the openings 2.
Upon an animal being unhitched the tugs 12 and 13 are placed on the hooks, the openings 14 therein receiving the hooks as will be readily understood. The springs prevent the ends of the tugs from escaping until removed by the attendant or driver.
V7 hat I claim as my invention is A tug fastener comprising a base piece supplied with suitable openings a pair of hooks extending upwardly from the base piece having their ends directed toward each other, a post carried by the base piece and located midway between the hooks, said post having an opening in the upper end thereof, and flat springs secured to the base of the post and having the body portions thereof bearing against the ends of the hooks and the upper ends turned inwardly and passing in opposite directions through the opening in the post, as and for the purpose specified.
Signed at Orbow this 21st day of October 1912.
