PLOW. APPLICATION FILED IUNE 3, |915.`

gnbewhoz JOSEPH A. PITNER, OF MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA.
' PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18,1916.
Application filed June 3, 1915. Serial No. 31,980.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. PITNER, a.
citizen of the United States, residing at Minot, in the county of Ward, State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in plows, and has for its object to provide a device of this character with a point which can be easily and quickly removed or replaced without the aid of bolts.
A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a plow having a removable point which when worn may be replaced by a new one easily and quickly without requiring the use of bolts.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and. illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view. Fig. l is a sectional view on line H of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a side elevation. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing 1 designates the mold-board, and 2 the land side, said moldboard and land side being connected near their upper ends by a brace bar 3. The land side is provided with the usual frog 41, which is bolted to the mold-board'l, said froghaving its lower edge provided with lugs 5 and. 6, the latter lug having a iin 7, the purpose of which will appear later. The mold-board is provided at its lower edge with an eXtension 8, and spaced from the extension 8 is a recess 9.
The share9 is provided with an integral point 10 which is provided at its upperv edge with a finger 11, said point being further provided with a thickened portion 12 in which is formed a socket 13, said socket being slightly tapered to correspond to the tapered formation of the extension 6. Opening into the socket 13 is a groove 14, which is adapted to receive the fin 7 when the extension 6 is engaged in the socket, and at which time the finger 11 engages the recess 9 and the lugs 5 and 8 engage the rear side of the point, as clearly 'shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.
To hold the share 9 and mold-board 1 in interlocked relation a hook 15 is provided, said hook consisting of sections 16 and 17, which are screw threaded and have their adjacentpends adjustably connected by the nut 18, and since the sections 16 and 17 are oppositely threaded it is obvious that rotation of the nut 18 will cause the hook 15 to be lengthened or shortened. The section 16 of the shank is pivotally connected to the hook 19 which is bolted to the inner surface of the share, while the bill 20 of the section 17 is engaged in the perforation 21 formed in the plate 22, said plate being fixed to the mold-board 1. '.lhus it will be seen that the shank of thehook can be lengthened so as to remove the bill from the perforated plate, and when it is desired to replace the point it is only necessaryv to place the bill in engagement with the `plate and rotate the nut 18, whereuponthe sections l6fand 17 will be drawn towardeachother, thus firmly interlocking the point and mold-board.
Relative lateral movement of a point and mold-board is prevented by the lugs.
What is claimed is In a plow, the combinationwithy a moldboard, a share having a'socket, a groove formed thereimlugs carried by the moldboard, one of said lugs being detachably engagedin said socket and having a fin for engaging said groove, the remaining lugs being engaged with one face of the share, a hook carriedby the share, a perforated plate .carried by the mold-board, a hook consisting of adjustably connected sections, one of said sections being pivotally and removably engaged with the first named hook, a bill carried by the other section of the hook and being adapted to removably engage the perforation of the plate, said second named CEAS. D. KELso, EMMA I-I. WALLIN.
