JOSEPH E. WRIGHT, OF DYER, ARKANSAS.
CULTIVATOR ATTACHMENT.
T 0 all whom 'it lmay concern:
Be it known that. I, Josnrn E. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dyer, in the county of Crawford and'State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and usetional view of my attachment, ion the line 4---1, of Fig. 3, looking from the right-hand side of the sheet.. Fig. 5, is a perspective view of the top plate.
In describing my invention I read the drawings from left to right.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, Fig. 1 represents a rear elevation of a cultivator, the tongue brokgn away, the seat and levers removed. i,
The numerals l, represent the outside plow standards; the numerals 2, represent the inside standard, and 3, the plow points. My attaclnnent is described as follows, and consists first, of a rub-block 4. This rub-block is substantially rectangular in shape and is about 6 inches long by -1 inches wide. Its ends on one side are beveled as shown at 5, and extending from its straight side 6, is a plate Said plate T, is provided through its center nearly its entire length, with a vertical slot 8. This slot is ol' considerable width, wide enough to receive the upper end of the plow standard 2, when inserted therein edgewise. The said plate is also provided at each edge with tongues 9, and near its front end with a threaded perforation 10. Slidably mounted on the upper face. of said plate, is a sliding plate 11.
baid sliding plate is provided, near its inner end, with a vertical rectangular opening 12, and near its outer end with a vertical longitudinal slot 13. This opening and slot registers with the slot S, in said plate 7. Said sliding plate 11, is provided at each edge with a downward extension 14, and inward cxtensions 15, forming grooves 16, in which the tongues 9 tit and slide. A lug 1T, provided Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 22, 1.908. Serial No. 412,124.
with a horizontal threaded perforation 18, in which works a threaded arm 19, is secured to the outer end of said slotted plate by means of a threaded bolt 20, which passes through the slot 13, of said sliding plate, and screws into the threaded opening 10, in the plate 7.
Iourualed on the wrist 21, of the threaded arm 19, is a block 22, having a vertical rectangular perforation 23, through which the upper end of the standard, after passing through the rectangular opening 12, in the slidingr plate 11, passes. Now, it will be observed that the u )per end of said standard has passed through the said two openings 12 and 23, and it will be further observed that there are two attachments used on the cultivator, one immediately opposite the other, and that the rub-blocks 4, may be brought together, and when they are brought together, by turning the threaded arm 19 to the right, speaking in regard to the threads,
the said perforated blocks 22, are moved outwardly, speaking in relation to the cultivator, and carry with them the standards 2, and thus regulate the distance, not .only between the standards 2, but also between the standards 1. My attachments rest on the frames 24, that carry said standards. The device is adjustable and thereby adjusts the plow standards 2, and when said standards are brought close together the two blocks 4, rub against each other, and prevent said standards from coming any closer together than set by the device.
Although I have specifically described the combination, construction and arrangement of the several parts of my invention I do not conline myself particularly to such specific combination, construction and arrangement, as I claim the right to make such changes and moditication therein as may clearly fall within the scope of my invention, and which may be resorted to without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing any of my patentable rights therein.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with a cultivator, cultivator attachments, which rest upon the frames 24, that carry the plow standards 1 and 2, said attachments cach consisting cfa. rub-block 4, having its inner ends beveled as at '5; a slotted plate, extending from the straight side of'said rub-block, and having a vertical longitudinal slot S, and a threaded perforation 10, near its Outer end, and on I said each side tongues 9; a sliding plate 11, provided'm'th a rectangular opening 12, near its inner end, and a longitudinal vertical slot 13, near its outer end, and grooves 16, adapted to receive said tongues 9; a lug 17, provided Vwith ahorizontal threaded perforation 1S, and a. bolt passing through said slot 13, and screwing in said threaded opening 10; a threaded arm 19, screwing into the threaded opening 1S, of the lug 17, and a block '22,
'ournaled on the Wrist 21, of said arni 19, said lock provided with a perforation 23, said attachments adapted to regulate the distance between said low standards, substantially as shown and diescribed and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with a. cultivator, attachments resting on the frame-Work of said cultivator, which carry the plow standards,
low attachments each consisting of a rub-b ook 4 g a slotted andperforated late T,
' extending outwardly from said rub-hooks; a
perforated and slotted sliding plate 11, adaptf ed to slide on the upper face ofsaid plate 7; a
a threaded lug 17, provided with a bolt screwing into the perforation of said plate 7; a threaded arin 19, vscrewing in the perforation of said lug 17, and a perforated block 22, journaled 1n the Wrist of said arm, said attachment-s cooperating jointly t'o regulate the distance between tie plow standards of said cuitivator, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence. of two witnesses.
