.FRANK JONATA, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DIAPER-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1908.
Application filed July 23. 1907- Serial No. 385.128.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK J ONATA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in
the county and State of New York, have in-' vented a new and useful Improvement in Diaper-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a holder or container for a childs diaper, loosely fitting the limbs and lower portion of the body, and adapted for attachment to an underwaist, which holder or container is so constructed that it can be quickly and conveniently opened for the reception of a diaper ployment of pins or other sharp articles cal- ,culated to injure the child.
The invention consists in the novel coni struction and combination of the several parts as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.
' Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a partof this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improved holder or container closed and attached to an underwaist and Fig. 2 is a back The holder or container A is made from one piece of fabric of any desired character and the upper portion of the blank is wider than the lower portion, and the upper edge 10 is strai ht, while the side edges incline downw'ardly and outwardly from the top, which inclined edges are designated as 11 and 11 and terminate in pointed tabs 12 and 12*, the tab 12 being longer and more pronounced than the opposing tab 12. Just below the tabs 12 and 12 the side edges of the blank are made to incline downward and inward, and these edges are designated as'13 and 13*. The edges 13 and 13 are of the same length, and the edges 11 and 11 are practically of the same length. Below each of the said edges 13 and 13 a curved recess is formed in the side edge of the blank, which recesses are designated as 14 and 14 and at the lower terminals of the recessed portions 14 and 14*,
the bottom edges of the blank are inclined in direction of each other, VK hich inclined edges are designated as 15 and 15 and these inclined edges 15 and 15 meet to form a point 16, as is shown in Fig. 2.
The material is doubled upon itself at the edges to form a continuous hem 17 so as to reinforce the blank at such points. A series of buttons 18 is secured upon the blank at its back adjacent the straight edge 10 and at one side adjacent the upper edge 10, and in longitudinal alinement with the buttons 18 a buttonhole 19 is formed, and adjacent the outwardly inclined side 11'" buttonholes 20 are made, and other buttonholes 21 are pro-.
duced in the blank adjacent the lower inclined edge 13 tonhole 22 are located adjacent theupper outwardly inclined edge 11, the button being uppermost, and buttonholes 23 are produced in the blank adjacent the lower inwardly in- A button 18 and a butclined edge 13, the buttonholes 23 correspond- I ing to the buttonholes 21, and in the further construction of the blank buttons 24 are arranged along the lower edges 15 and 15" and adjacent the point 16, all of the buttons bein on the outer or back face of the article.
n application the buttons 18 are received in buttonholes 25 produced adjacent the lower edge of an underwaist B of any suitable descri tion, the diaper is then placed on the inner face/of the blank or container A and the lower portion thereof is folded upward at the front forming thereby a flap C, and then the side portions of the container are folded inward one over the other providing side flaps C, as is shown in Fig. 1, and in so folding the container the edges 13 and 13 are brought over the lowerflap C, giving the said flap a substantially triangular form, and the tab 12 will bear upon the outer face of the flap C at the junction of the edges 13 and 13 and the button 24 at the point 16 is then received by the buttonhole 22 adjacent the said longer tab 12, while the shorter tab 12 will register with the edge 13. That portion of the container adjacent the edges 11 and 11*, which are brought one over the other, are buttoned together by the button 18*, the adjacent button at the straight edge 10 being received by the buttonholes 20, and the buttons along the edges 15 and 15 are received by the buttonholes 21 and adjacent the edges 13 and 13. When the con tainer is folded it is of sack formation and c1r' in-.. ,m a. a r. i,
tom and sides join, which openings accommodate the limbs of the child, giving them perfect freedom, and the said openings are produced in folding by reason of the recesses 1 4 and 14* made in the blank.
It is evident that a garment of the construction described can be quickly opened, a diaper introduced or taken out, and as quickly and conveniently closed, adapting the diaper perfectly to the body of the child, and that .the device is sanitary, can be worn with comfort, and that no sharp objects are neces sary in closing the garment or holding it closed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A diaper holder constructed of a single piece of material having a straight wide upper portion whose sides incline downwardly and outwardly terminating in pointed tabs, a
- substantially triangular lower portion, the
point of which is centrally located with respect to the upper portion, and an inter mediate portion extending from the base of the tabs to the triangular portion, the intermediate portion having its sides inclined downwardly and inwardly for a portion of its length and then formed with recesses extending to the triangular portion, the upper portion being provided with button holes along one inclined side and a button and a .button hole along its other inclined side, the
