IIVEPROVEM'ENT IN PAPER-FILES.
The Schedule referred tdin-theae Letters Patent and making part otlthe same.
To all wlwm it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J. M. D. FRANCE, of Washington city, District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Paper-File; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description f the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention.
The object of my invention is to provide a more ready and convenient plan by which papers of value may be preserved for reference;
It consists of a frame, A A, in which are notches at equal distances, the whole length of said frame, on
either side, in which Works a-longitudinal bar, B, a
base, 0, to which the frame'is attached, and a sliding board, 1), Working in a vertical slot extending the whole length of the frame AA.
Attached to the sliding board D.-is a pin, E E, bywhich the parts are retained in place, and the file rendered easy in movement.
The notches are placed equidistant throughout the length of the frame, and are cut on opposite sides thereof; in order to avoid the necessity of the use of a spring in the operation of the bar B working in the notches.
' The parts having been thus described, the, operation of the same is as follows:
The papers to be retained are placed on the base, 0, i
and the longitudinal bar turned to its appropriate notch in the frame A, entered on either side, and the papers 7 are thus held secm'ely.
To release the papers, all that is necessaryto be done is to turn the bar from its insertion in the notch, and a single paper may be removed.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by LettersPatcut, is-- A device for filing papers, consisting of a frame, A A, notched as described, in combination with bar-"B, base, 6, sliding board D, and pin E', combined and operated in the manner substantially as hereinbefore described, for the purpose specified.
