Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID A. JONES, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED TWEEZERS, WATCH-KEY, 84C.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 77,62l, dated May 5, 1868 antedated April 22, 1868.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID A. JONES, of Springiield, Hampden county, Commonwealth ot' Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improved Combination of Tweezers, Ear-Spoon, and Watch-Key; and I do hereby 'that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference heilig had to the accompan ying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the drawings, Figures l, 2, Sto., are plan and side views of my invention.
This invention consists of a combined arrangement of tweezers, watchkey, and earspoon, wherebythey are compactly and neatly put together, and can be used separately, as far as their respective uses are concerned, by merely shifting the parts to the proper positions.
In construction I form my tweezers of two slotted pieces, A and A', which have the ends a formed with clear and corresponding edges, making the nippers, the other ends being fastened on each side of a piece, B, by means of a rivet, c, through them. The plates A and A' are cut out In the middle, leaving a tongue, d and d', on each of them, extending from toward the rivet c, this forming a spring-lock for the piece B when turned either way. The piece B has a longer and shorter end, f and g,
the onef having the ear-spoon at its end, and having its shank grooved on each side, into which grooves h the projections 'i i upon the ends of the tongues d d' clamp when the end fis turned in, and the other end, g, which is the watch-key, is set out. When this is reversed the projections t' t" upon the tongues meet in front ot' the slot in the watch-key and prevent dirt and trash from getting into it. In this case the lock is formed by the underneath surfaces of the tongues being hollowed out so as to conform to the cylindrical shape of the keyshaft.
In this rnanner I obtain a neat and useful 'device which can be carried in the pocket or attached to the watch-guard. It is very light, and at the same time sufliciently strong for the operations intended to be accomplished.
Having describediny invention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination ot' the tweezers A A', ear-v spoon f, and watch-key g, arranged and constructed substantially as and for the purpose shown.
DAVID A. JONES.
