Lettefrs Patent No. 84,665, dated December l, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN GARRIAGJACK The Schedule referred to in these Iletters Patent and. making part of the same.
To all whom t ma/y conce/mk v Be it known that I, Jnvl's B. WHITE, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Carriage- Jacks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, suiiicient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to fully understand and construct the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
which make part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improvd carriage-jack, and
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same, one sile being removed. y
Like letters indicate like parts in both figures.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a carriage-jack, the lifting-bar of which is raised by means of a strap passing over the disk-end ot the elevating-lever.
A A', in the drawings, represent side pieces, secured on the bottom piece B, and being at their lower endextended longitudinally, as shown at L a', ill-Which extension slots b b are made.
The pieces A A? are stayed by rods c, between' which and the pieces A A' moves the lifting-bar G, to the under side of which is secured one end of a strap, D; the other end of the same passing overthe disk E, at
ing journals for the same.
The operation of my improved carriage-jack is veryn simple.
The lever' or handle, being in position as shownin red lines in tig. 2, the lifting-bar C is adjusted under the axle, and thelever brought down to the position in black lines, where it may be secured by the loop jl The strap D winds on the disk E, the journals e of which rest in slots b, arid elevates the bar C. l This vcarriage-jack is easily and cheaply constructed. The side extensions' a a may be provided with two or more slots, b b', to suit any-sized carriage, and front and hind wheels.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The carriage-jack, consisting of the side pieces A A', lifting-bary C, straps D, arranged and operating sub-- stantially as described. v
