ro lAEL WHCM rr MAY CCNCEEN; i
Beit known that I, W. B. CARGILL, ofvNew Haven, in the county of New'Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented anew Improvement in Corset-Clasps; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a. full, clear,
' in thel accompanying drawings.
and exlact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figurel, a perspective view, and in Figure 2 the blank enlarged. f
This inventionrela-tes to an' improvement in the trimmings for corset-clasps, the object being to dispense with the use`of the rivet commonly employed us the hook on the clasp ,j and my invention consists informing the trimming from a blank' having a projection upon each side,V longitudinally to the'steel, and turning the two projections up and bending themso as to form a head, and by which construction a button is formed, much stronger and at less expense than the rivet.
In order to the clear understanding of my improvement, I will proceed to describe thesame,'as illustrated- In fig. 2, the blank is represented as struck from asheet of metal, and as if perfectly fiat. The ends, A D, are formed to turn down, as seen in g. 1, and to be struck down on to or so as to be secured to the steel.
'The two projections, C and D, are turned up toward each other, and their ends bent outward, asfseen in iig. 1,
which completes the trimming, and it is ready for attachment to the steel in any convenient m'anner.
In this formation of the button the fullstrength of the double metal isattained, and the trimming may be produced at two operations, and at little or no more expense than the ordinary rivet, and possesses the advantage that when attached to the steel-it strengthens it, whereas the rivet weakens the steel.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim'as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi The herein-described corset-clasp trimming, consisting of the plate, provided with the-button, composed ot" the two parts, C and D, in the manner substantially as herein set forth.. v y W. B.' GARGILL.
