Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEVERETT H. OLMSTED, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-FILES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 84,505, dated December 1, 1868.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEVERETT H. OLMsTED, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Bill and Paper File, and I do hereby declare that the followiu g is a full and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art t0 make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views, showing one of the clamps raised to receive bills, letters, &c.
Each gure shows a different kind of spring that may be used to actuate the clamps.
Thisinven tion relates to a new and improved bill and paper file or holder; and it consists of the arrangement of two clamps, which are made of wire, and are actuated by springs, and are attached to a plate made of wood, tin, brass, or other suitable material, by means of staples or otherwise, to prevent the clamps from becoming displaced while they are being lifted from the plate to insert bills, papers, Src., between the plate and clamps.
After inserting the papers between the plate and the clamps, by releasing the clamps from the hands, the springs bring the clamps to bear upon the papers, thereby holding them in place and together.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the plate; B B, the clamps; C, the springs; D, the staples which hold the clamps to the plate, and in which the clamps move freely.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of plate A with the clamps B B, which said clamps are actuated by means of springs, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
L. H. OLMSTED.
