THOMAS H. OBRIEN, OF FOND DU LAO, WISCONSIN.
TICKET OR TAG.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1906.
Application filed July 24:. 1905. Serial No, 271,073.
To @ZZ whom, it may con/cern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. OBRIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du'Lac and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tickets or Tags, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to improvements in tags or tickets, especially for attaching or affixing to dry goods in the piece or roll, &c.
It has for its object more particularly to isolate or conceal the point of the ticket or tag attaching pin or fastening to guard against the liability of the pricking or puncturing of the hands by `accidental contact therewith.
It therefore consists of certain structural features, substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure l is a perspective view of the same. Fig. 2 is a like view with the flap or guard thrown up as previous to clasping it in position over its attaching or afhxing pin or fastening. Fig. 3 is a transverse section produced through the ticket-body about in a line with the point of the retaining or attaching pin as distinguished from its iap or guard securing portion. Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view of the attaching or retaining pin or fastening.- Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are different views of a modification of the invention.
In the carrying out of my invention, I suitably construct the ticket or tag l of pasteboard, cardboard, or other material of the requisite stiffness and. other qualities, providing it with a flexibly-connected flap or guard la for a purpose presently disclosed.
An attaching or affiXing pin 2 for connecting the ticket or tag 1 to the piece or roll of dry goods or other object is suitably applied to said ticket or tag and has its point terminated or equipped portion adapted after having been passed through said goods or object to be brought or bent within a lateral edge notch 1b of the ticketbody over upon the front side of the latter and well toward the middle thereof. The opposite end portion 2b of said pin or fastening which is passed about centrally portion of the ticket is bent down upon the flap or guard la, lying flat upon the ticket and over the top edge of the latter, thus effecting the securing of said fiap or guard over the attaching-pin point to isolate or remove it from contact with the hands for the purpose stated. By means of this arrangement of parts it will be noted that the ilap may be readily thrown outward, uncovering the ticket-attaching pin and accordingly permitting its ready removal with the ticket from the goods or other object to which it may be attached when required.
In the modification as suggested by Figs. 5, 6, and 7, it will be noted that there is provided an attaching pin or fastening 3, having the general characteristics of the pin 2 so far as relates to its point terminated or equipped portion and the bending or looping of the latter. Instead, however, of passing it in the form as aforesaid through the ticket-body it is returned uppn itself and formed with duplicate right-angled looped portions 3, which are passed through holes lc in the ticket-body and similarly bent upon the flap and over upon the opposite side of the latter, as aforesaid.
I claim- 1. A tag or ticket of the character de scribed, having a flexibly-connected flap or guard, and a pin with its point-equipped portion bent over upon the front of said ticket and its other portion passed through the latter and bent at right angles to the aforesaid portion and down upon said flap or guard and effecting thereby the isolation of its point.
2. A tag or ticket of the character described, having a iflexibly-connected flap, and a pin with its pointequipped portion overlying the front of said ticket, and returned upon itself and formed with duplicate right-angled looped portions passed through the ticket-body and effective to securesaid flap upon the ticket-body, over the pin-point.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS H. OBRIEN.

F. W. CHADBOURNE, Tassin NORMILE.
