Specification of Letters Patent.
PIN-TICKET.
Patented Dec. 31,1912.
Application filed June 10, 1912. Serial No. 702,648.
To c/Z 'whom tt may concern:
Be it known that l, JoHN C. S'r. JOHN, a citizen of the Unit-ed States, residing at Roxbury, Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful improvements in Pinriickets, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to pin tickets such as are used on clothing and generally on articles of merchandise for indicating the name of the dealer, prices and sizes of the articles to which the pin ticket is attached, and any other information that may be necessary.
The object of the invention is to provide a pin ticket which is simple and cheap in its construction, which can be readily attached to the articles of merchandise and which may be attached to the clothing in such a manner that it will not become accidentally detached therefrom, and, furthermore to produce a pin ticket of the character set forth which, when attached to articles of merchandise, shall have the free end of the pin so guarded that the same will not injure the article to which it is attached and will not injure persons handling said article, and which is also so constructed that when a number of such articles, with said pin tickets attached thereto, are placed on-e upon the other in a pile, the free end of the pin cannot stick into or injure in any way the article adjacent thereto to which it is not attached.
The invention consists in a pin ticket constructed as hereinafter described and particularly as set forth in the claim.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a pin ticket embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1, looking toward the left in said figure. Fig. 3 is a frontelevation of my improved pin ticket i showing the same attached to a piece of fabric. Fig. L1 is a sectional elevation taken on line 4 1 of Fig. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a modied form of my improved pin ticket. taken on line 6 6 of Fig. 5.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 10 is a piece of sheet material, preferably cardboard, and constituting a tag.
Fig. 6 is a sectional elevation 11 is a pin formed of flexible wire, preferably bent at one end as at 12 and attached at that end to the cardboard 10 by means of a strip 13 of sheet material, such as paper, said paper being attached to the reverse face of the cardboard by suitable adhesive material such as paste or glue 9. .i hole 11i extends through the cardboard 1() from the obverse to the reverse face thereof and the pin 11 extends along the reverse face of the cardboard 10, across the hole 11- and beyond the edge 15 of the tag 10. The hole 14. is preferably located adjacent to the edge 15 and the pin 11 is of such a length that its free end extends beyond the edge 15 to such an extent that said free end may be bent around the edge 15 and along the obverse face of the cardboard, terminating in the hole 111, as illustrated in Figs. and et.
Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate the pin ticket before it is attached to the fabric.
1n Figs. 3 and 4 the pin ticket is illustrated as attached to a piece of fabric 16.
To attach the pin ticket hereinbefore specifically described and illustrated in Fig. 1 and 2 to a piece. of fabric 16, the free end of the pin 11 is inserted through or into the fabric 16 for a certain portion of its length and then brought out of the fabric with that face thereof adjacent to the reverse face of the pin ticket lying thereagainst. Said free end is then bent around the edge 15 along the obverse face of the tag 10, and. is bent into the hole 141-. its extreme free end terminating within said hole, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4t. It will be evident that when the pin ticket is thus attached to the fabric, it is firmly locked thereto and cannot become accidentally detached therefrom and also that the point of the pin being wit-hin the hole 14 and between the obverse and reverse faces of the tag will be guarded so that it will not stick into other fabric adjacent to the obverse face of the tag and also so that it Will not stick into the hands of the person handling the fabric with the ticket thereon.
In Figs. 5 and 6 l have illustrated a modified form of my invention in which the tag 1T of cardboard has a hole 18 therein and the pin 19 is bent into a tel-shape at 2O extending through the cardboard from the reverse to the obverse face and then back again from the obverse to the reverse face and thence the pin extends along the reverse llt) three of tbe tug :incl beyond the edge '21. The ticket in thisl Form is need as in the torni illustrated in Figs. 'l to -il inclusive, by bending telle lree einl of the pin :wound tlie edge l :unl into vllie llole 18. v
it, ie erirlent tlmt the pin in eitlier enge nlnet extend nt ite` tree en l beyond the edge nbnnt. n'liieli it is to be bent to suoli :in eX.- tent that, when bent, :is (leseribetl, Said Jfree enf'l will project into the hole ll or 1S, as tbe ense nmy be.
