Description

No. 814,125, PATENTED MAR. 6, 1906.
W. D. PLYNN.
SUSPENDEES. APPLICATION FILED MAY26.1905.
Z J Jazz 43 wag UNITED STATES PATENT} OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 6, 1906.
Application filed May 26, 1905. Serial No. 262,518-
I citizen of the United States, residing at Spray,
in the county of Rockingham and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to suspenders, more particularly to the back end and in the man ner of forming the connection between the back end of the suspender and the attachingstraps between the back end of the suspender and a garment; and the object thereof is to provide a new and novel construction of back end for suspenders, which is hereinafter more specifically set forth and which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to set up.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel form of suspender-back hereinafter more specifically described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 illustrates the first fold of the web. Fig. 2 illustrates the second fold of the web. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 shows the reinforced connection at the back end of the suspender when completed.
A suspender constructed in accordance with this invention is formed from a single web of any suitable material and of any desirable width. The web is folded in a manner as hereinafter set forth, so as to form a reinforced connection at the back end to receive and support the garment -attaching straps 3, and, furthermore, to form the shoulder-straps 1 2, which diverge with respect to each other. The web approximately centrally thereof is provided with an opening 9, and through the said opening 9, when the re inforced connection at the back end of the suspender is formed, extends the garmentattaching straps 3. The manner in which the reinforced connection at the back end of the suspender and the diverging shoulderstraps 1 2 are formed is as follows: The web at a point approximately centrally thereof has the outer face thereof folded upon itself on the bias, so as to form the bend 4, and which also forms the shoulder-strap 1. The web is then folded upon itself on the bias in the opposite direction, so as to form the bend 6, and, furthermore, form the shoulder-strap 2. Owing to the manner of folding the web on the bias in opposite directions, the shoulder-straps 1 2 diverge with respect to each other and an equilateral triangular-shaped reinforcement and support is formed, which is interposed between the back ends of the shoulder-straps 1 2, and owing to the formation of the opening 9 approximately centrally of the web said opening 9 after the shoulderstraps have been formed is positioned in the reinforcement and support 8. The back ends of the straps 1 2 and the reinforcement and support 8 are then secured together by a diamond-shaped row of stitching 10, thereby completing the reinforced back connection for the garment-attaching straps 3. It will be stated that before the back ends of the straps and reinforcement 8 are secured together the garment-attaching straps 3 are passed through the opening 9.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A suspender comprising a pair of shoulderstraps and a triangular-shaped combined reinforcement and support interposed between the back ends of said straps, said combined reinforcement and support provided with an opening to receive garment-attaching straps, and means for securing the shoulder-straps, the garment-attaching straps and the combined reinforcement and support together.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM D. FLYNN.
