GARMENT-FASTENER.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, rate,
Application filed June 5, 1915. Serial m. 32,307.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Homes CnRIsTIANsnN,
a citizen of Denmark, residing at Erie, in
the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in coat or shawl fasteners and its object is to provide a device which when not in use can be folded or collapsed to occupy very small space and carried in the pocket; and which can be instantly extended and applied to the body or collar of a coat to fasten the same about the wearer, or to a shawl to retain the same in wrapped position about the wearer.
With the foregoing and'other objects in View the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of said specification and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the fastener" extended.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device in folded or collapsed position.
Fig. 4 is a similar view partly in section to show the telescoping members.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout 4 the severa views.
llhe invention comprises the buttons 1 and 2, each of which is formed with a bead 3 on one lateral face and a spring socket 4 on the other lateral face, the socket of one button being adapted to receive and frictionally retain the bead of the other button; said buttons being connected by a flexible member 5 and each button bein provided with'acurved pin 6 adapted to e inserted into the body of the garment to be fastened. One pin is curved or bent over upon the socket side of 'its button and the other pinfi upon the bead side ofits button.
It is obvious that the device may be used to fastena coat or shawl about a person, or a coat collar closel wearer, and to ho d the same securely in position without the, necessity or assistance of buttons or other fastening means of ordinary use. When not in use the device may be folded or collapsed by inserting the bead of one button into the socket of the other when .the fastener may readily be carried in the pocket, the pointed ends of the pins now being disposed between the buttons in such position that they cannot work damage to the pocket or garment in which they are carried.
What is claimed is l. A garment fastener comprising buttons each of which is provided upon one lateral face with a bead and upon the other face with a socket, the socket of one button being adapted to receive and frictionally retain the bead of the other button, a flexible member connecting said buttons and curved pins carried by said buttons, said pins being curved over upon relatively opposite lateral faces of said buttons.
2. A folding garment fastener comprising buttons each of which is provided upon one lateral face with a bead and upon the other face with a socket, the socket of one button being adapted to receiveand frictionally retain the bead of the other button when the device is folded, a flexible member connecting said buttons, and curved ins carried by said buttons and, in the 0 ded position of the device, having their pointed extremities disposed inwardly and between the relatively adjacent faces of said buttons.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto-afixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
