Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 6, 1917.
Application filed April 14, 1916. I Serial No. 91,230.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro W. SoHULz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado have invented new and useful Imo 0 provements 1n Collar-Buttons, of which the following is a specificatlon.
This invention is an improved collar button, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely cheap and simple in construction, which may be readily used, which enables the collar to be readily adjusted or removed, which offers no obstructions to the slipping of the tie, which does not change the shape of the button hole in either the tion, and arrangement of devices hereinafter.
described and claimed.
In the accompanying draw1ngs: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar button constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same in use, a portion of the neck band of a shirt and also a portion of the collar being shown in section.
In the embodiment of my invention, I provide'a plate 1 which may be made of sheet metal or other suitable material and which is provided, at points spaced from its center with vertical slits 2 of suitable length and which extend down from its upper side. The portion 3 between the slits is offset outwardly and is bent in inverted U form to provide an inner arm 4 which is connected at its lower end to the plate and is spaced from the plane of the plate, outwardly extended shoulder 5 at' the upper end of j said'inner arm and a downwardly extending arm 6 at the outer sideof said shoulder and the lower end of which isrounded and slightly out-turned as at 7 A lug 8, which i is struck up integral with the plate, from an opening 9 in the shoulder 5, projects upwardly from and is in line with the offset 4 and midway between the ends of the sh0ulder 5.
To insert the button in the neck band 1O 01": the shirt, the loose outer flap 11 of. the neck band is turned upwardly, the hook or arm 6 is put through the button hole, the plate oribase 1 is turned inwardly to arrange it between the folds of the neck band, the upper side of the button hole is engaged behind the lug and the device is then pushed upwardly, the offset 4 engaging the neck band above the button hole as shown in Fig. 2. V
' .The button hole of the collar is engaged with the hook 'arm'6, and the upper side of the button hole of the collar is caused to bear on the shoulder 5 which prevents the collar from working downwardly.
Having described the invention, what isclaimed is: The herein described collar button comprising a plate, and having a hook comprisng an inner arm connected at one end to the plate and spaced from the plane of the plate, an outwardly extending shoulder at V the opposite end of said inner arm, an arm at the outer side of said shoulder and opposite the inner arm and a lug which extends from the shoulder and which lies in the plane of said inner arm.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
v OTTO SOI-IULZ.
