Description

PATENTED NOV. 14, 1905.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 14, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. WILLIAM PAITIIETBF LONDON, ENGLAND.
COMBINED CASE AND HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 14., 1905.
Application filed March 14, 1905. Serial No. 250,118.
To (ZZZ whom it 17mg concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM PAINE, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of 6 Dyers Buildings, Holborn, London, E. (1., England, have invented a new and useful Improved Combined Case and Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a combined case, pouch, pocket, or the like, and holder, chain, strap, or the like, for keys or other objects intended to be kept on the person.
The object of the present invention is to provide a combined case and holder which will protect the pocket of the persons clothing and also protect the object in question from dirt, corrosion, or other deterioration, and which at the same time will enable the object to be easily and quickly withdrawn from and replaced in the case.
According to the present invention flexible means of attachment, such as a chain or strap, are employed for holding the object to be protected, and the case for containing the object is also attached to said means.
Two embodiments of the present invention are illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows the form of the blank out of which a case, pouch, or pocket according to the present invention can be made. Fig. 2 is a view of one form of a combined case and holder, the case being open. Fig. 3 is a back view of another form of a combined case and holder according to my invention in which the end of the holder extending out of the case is connected to the pouch instead of to the clothing of the person.
The case, pocket, or pouch is constructed out of the blank shown in Fig. 1, which may be of leather or any other suitable material comprising the three parts lettered a, Z), and c. Intervening between the parts a and b a hole 0K is provided. The said hole may be reinforced by a metal edge or eyelet 7:7, as shown in Fig. 2.
Referring now to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the part a is folded over 5 and the two stitched together or otherwise secured to form a case, pocket, or pouch open at one end, which is provided with the flap c and a snapcatch, (which, as shown, consists of a schloss button or glove fastener e c,) the socket or female part c of the fastening being attached to the flap c and the male part 6 attached to the body part a of the pouch. Any other convenient means of fastening may be employed. c' is the key-ring in the pouch.
Referring to Fig. 3, instead of using a chain a strap g is employed, which can be fastened by means of a snap-catch or schloss button 72., similar to that shown in Fig. 2, to the back of the pouch, the flap 0 being fastened in the front, as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 2. By these means it will be seen that the case, pocket, or pouch is retained on the holder, chain, strap, or other flexible means of attachment for the keys or other object in question, and the combined device provides a very ready means of getting at the keys or other object when required and of replacing them in the case after use, it being only necessary with the constructions described and shown in the accompanying drawings to draw the chain or strap or other flexible means of attachment back through the hole 03, (said means having been previously drawn forward by the action of removing the keys or the like from the case,) thereby drawing the keys or the like into the case, which is then closed by means of the flap c and the snap-catch or other suitable means.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination, with a key-chain, of a key-pocket having a hole for the penetration of the chain, of a flap adapted to close the pocket by overlapping same and of a snapbutton at about the middle of the length of the pocket to secure the aforesaid flap to the latter, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with a key-pocket having a main opening through which the keys are adapted to be inserted, a flap for closing said opening, and means for fastening the flap to the key-pocket, of flexible means of attachment secured to the keys and penetrating through a hole in the pocket, and of means for securing to the key-pocket the end of the part of the flexible means of attachment extending outside the pocket, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name, this 14th day of February, 1905, in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
WILLIAM PAINE.
