Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ISADORE JOSEPH LEVY, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Bags, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

My invention relates to an improved hand bag, and has for its object to provide a bag with a detachable pad arranged to hold suitable bag fittings, which pad is provided with a handle whereby it may be easily removed from the body of the bag so as to give access to the fittings carried thereon, and to convert the bag from a fitted to an unfitted bag, as desired.

In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention Figure 1 is a front view of my improved hand bag; Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof; Fig. 3 is an end view of the same, and Fig. 4 is a front view of the detached pad.

(1) represents the body of the bag made in any suitable size and form, and preferably having a flexible flap (2) which is adapted to close the bag by being turned down upon the body portion thereof.

The pad (3), as is best seen in Fig. 4, is made of a suitable size to fit into the body of the bag. A rod (4.) having a strap handle (5) fastened to its ends, is secured to the upper edge of the pad. This strap (5) serves as a handle for the bag when the pad is inclosed therein, and it also serves as a handle whereby the pad may be withdrawn from the bag when desired. The bag is pro-v vided with the usual (6) for holding the bag fittings 1n place thereon. A suitable fastening element (7) having one part thereof secured to the pad and the other part thereof secured to the body of the bag, is provided to hold the pad 1n place when it is inserted in the body of the bag. A strap (8) extending around the outside of the bag, is provided to fasten the flap (2) down on the bag. I prefer to have this strap loose at the rear of the bag, as is seen in Fig. 3, so as to form an auxiliary handle for the bag, which may be used to hold the bag when. the pad is removed therefrom.

Various modificationsmay be made in the details of the construction shownand described without departing from the scope of my invention.

hat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

straps or receptacles A hand bag provided with a detachable fitted pad removably secured within the body of the bag, said pad having a handle strap fastened on one edge thereof, which serves as a handle for withdrawing the pad from the bag, and also as a handle for carrying the bag when the pad is inclosed therein, substantially as described.
