NATI-IAN SIMMONS, OF NEW YORK, I\T. Y.
COMBINATION BILL-FOLDER' AND CHANGE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Ang. 22, 1916.
Application led February 12, 1916. Serial No. 77,949.
To cli whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, NATHAN SIMMONS, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Bill-Folders and Change-Holders, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to pocketbooks, and particularly to devices of this class designed vto serve both as bill folders and change holders, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and practical and efficient in use, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified, constructed and operated hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of my improved combination bill folder and change holder and showing the same closed; Fig. 2 a similar view showing the device open; Fig. 3 a partial section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and, Fig. 4C a partial section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
In the practice of my invention I provide a bill folder a and change holder Z). The bill folder a is of the same general form as other devices of this class, and consists of an oblong inner and outer part a2 and a3 forming a pocket, one side edge portion at of which is open the full length of the folder, and this folder may be made of leather, fabric or any other suitable material.
The change holder consists of an oblong approximately rectangular receptacle b2 made of leather, fabric or any other suitable material, and comprising a back 3, folding ends b4 and narrow side members b5, and secured to the narrow side members b5 and to the ends b4 is a metallic frame consisting of parallel side members t and yokeshaped end frames Z9? pivotally connected therewith at bs.
Secured to the inner side portion of the bill folder' or the end parts thereof, is a facing or covering b9 which overlaps or covers the folding end portions of the change holders, and formed in connect-ion with one of the ends b4 is a fiap Z210, and connected with said flap and withthe outer side of the opposite end portion of the change holder are the separate parts c and o2 of a fastening device of the ball and socket type, and when the end portions of the change holder are folded together, they are secured by means of the fastening device or devices 0 02.
The end parts of the bill folder are also provided with a fastening device of the ball and socket type, and consisting of two parts CZ and d2, and the device may be held in the folded position as shown in Fig. l by said fastening device or devices Z and (Z2.
The bill folder is also provided centrally with a fastening device e of the ball and socket type, consisting of two parts e2 and e3, the ball member being secured in,A the back of the change holder, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 and passing through the back part b3 of the change holder and through the front part a2 of the bill folder, while the socket member e3 is secured in the back or outer part a3 of the bill folder.
lVith my improvement, I provide a device of veniently used both as a bill holder and folder and as a change holder, and which when folded up as shown in Fig. l forms a snug compact pocketbook device which may be carried in a pocket in the manner of other devices of this class and from which the bills may be removed whenever desired without opening the change holder, or from which the change may be removed whenever desired without opening the bill holder; it will also be seen that, as shown and described, the change holder is about one-third of the length of the bill folder and when the device is folded up as shown in Fig. l the bill folder entirely incloses the change holder, except at the side edge portions thereof and while I have shown and described the preferred form of my improvement, my invention is not limited to the details of construction herein shown and described, and changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
the class specified which may be con-V The facing or covering bo serves as means for securing the change holder Z) to the bill folder a and seid facing or covering may be glued to the separate parts thereof, or the edge portions thereof stitched thereto, and the back b3 of the change holder Z) Will be similarly secured to the bill folder a, and the object of securing the part c2 of the fastening device e to the back b3 of the change holder I) and the inner part a2 of the folder a is to reinforce and securely hold seid parts together and to prevent the separation of seid parts in the use of the device if the separate parts thereof are glued together.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combination device of the class described, comprising an oblong bill folder one side edge portion of which is open, and si change holder which is oblong and rec- Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner tangulzir in form and which is secured centrally of one side of the folder and which comprises a body portion of flexible material, n framework consisting of parallel side members and yoke-shaped end members pivoted to said side members, the end portions of the folderI projecting beyond the ends of the change holder, and the end members of the change holder being adapted to be closed and secured and the end portions of the folder being adapted to be folded over the change holder and secured.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my invention l have signed my nume in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 9th day of February 1916.
