Description

. EMORG'A-N. I WALL-POCKETS FOR STATIONERY.
No. 194,971. Patented S ept.11,"1877\.
Z7&%%Za} UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELISHA MORGAN, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT lN'WALL-POCKETS FOR STATIONERY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,971, dated September 11, 1877; application filed July 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISHA MORGAN, of Springfield, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Combined Wall-Pocket and Case for Stationery, and that the following-is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists of a box provided with a swinging cover, hinged to a vertical base, withgussets, secured between the base and the box, at the ends, said box being provided with a retaining-piece to keep the stationery in place when the device is suspended against the wall, or when the box is in a vertical position and its cover open; the nature and object of the invention being clearly indicated by the following'description and accompanying drawings.
Figure I is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. II is a vertical transverse section of the same midway its length.
In the drawings, A represents the base, which I prefer should be made of stout cardboard, and which may be suitably ornamented at the top; and to this base are secured the gussets O at each end, either by pasting one edge of each gusset directly to the base A or by gluing a piece, B, against the front side of the base, with one edge of each gusset folded over each end of the piece B, between it and the base.
The box D is made either of wood or of other strong material, with a cover, E, hinged thereto in .any convenient. manner; and the outer edge of each gusset is secured to the back side of the box D in any convenient way, (preferably by a similar meansto that by which they are secured to the base A, as hereinbefore described,) and the lower side of the box is hinged along its corner at a to the lower edge of the base A.
The box D is provided with a retaining piece or band, i, which retains the stationery in place within the box when the latter is in a'vertical position and opened; and the cover E, when the box is suspended upon the wall of the room. is held closed by a latch or other desirable fastening.
As thus arranged this is a very useful and ornamental receptacle for stationery, and particularly for such matters as relate to correspondence, as the stationery, or envelopes and paper, may be kept in the box D, while the letters, both answered and unanswered, may be kept in the compartment or pocket at B, between the base A and box D, and all are easily accessible.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is b As a new article of manufacture, the combination of the box D, cover E, gussets G, and base A, the said box and base being hinged together, and forming a combined case for stationery and wall-pocket, all substantially as described.
. ELISHA MORGAN.
