A. SANDERS.
REGEPTAGLE FOR CONTAINING CLASSIFIED BILLS, LETTERS, 0R SAMPLES. No. 379,665. Patented Mar. 20, 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT EFicE.
AMOS SANDERS, OF NORTH VERNON, INDIANA.
RECEPTACLE FOR CONTAINING CLASSIFIED BILLS, LETTERS, 0R SAMPLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,665, dated March 20, 1888.
Application filed July 14, 1887. Serial No. 244,287.
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMOS SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Vernon, in the county of Jennings and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Containing Classified Bills, Letters, or Samples; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of my invention is to make a receptacle for containing classified bills, letters, and samples.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view showing the sections opened out, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section of the same with the sections closed.
In the drawings, A represents a vertical board, made hollow or flanged on both sides, fast at the bottom to the middle of a base, B, and secured at the top to a cover, O. In the cavity of either side of the stationary board A, I arrange pockets D or the elastic bill or letter holders E".
F F are corresponding]y-construcled sections hinged to diagonally-opposite corners of the stationary section A, and folding on opposite sides thereof, each being provided with pockets or bill-holders on both sides. To the sections F F, l hinge the outer sections, G G, which are hollow or flanged only on the inside, so that when all the sections are closed the external faces form the outside of my bill, letter, and sample holder.
The pockets and holders are so constructed that a small portion of the bills, letters, or samples, which have been previously notated with suitable inemoranda, will appear above and give the proper clew to their contents. The cavities of the sections may be subdivided by longitudinal partitions H, if desired; but these may be dispensed with.
(No model.)
The pockets or holders may be made of any depth and width, of wood, wire, leather, cloth, plate metal, or other material to suit the article to be placed in them.
lWIy invention may be attached to a Wall or a writingdesk, or it may be set upon a pedestal, as shown in the drawings, or secured upon pliant material in the form of a portfolio, my object being to secure the greatest number of papers or samples in a given space, while free access is allowed to each without disturbing the others. In this way a classified list of papers and samples may be kept or transported for ready reference. On the outer edge of each section I notate the initial letters, inclusive, so that no time may be lost in looking for any paper or sample. the form of a portfolio, it is especially convenicnt for drummers, agents, and attorneys, while as a means for the conveyance of samples it can be made a part of or set in any valise, trunk, or traveling-case. Of course, between the stationary middle seclion and the outer ones any preferred number of intermediate ones may be used.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A sample, bill, or letter tile receptacle c011- sisting of the stand A B O, hollow and provided with holders on both sides, the theretohinged sections F F, also hollow and provided with holders on both Sides, and the sections G G, having a cavity and holders only on the inside, the sections G being hinged to the inner cdges of the sections F, whereby the sections may be folded in or out of the stand, as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AMOS SANDERS.
IVitnesses:
WALTER. S. PRATHER, JAMES CRAIG.
