DISPLAY DEVICE.
APPLIUATIQN FILED me. 1904.
lil a ririsn .Patented July l, 1905.
lllairnnr @ritieni liiililiriilimiti-lillV tl im l SEECJFICME'IN forming' part of Letters latent No. 'tw/QSO, dated July el, 1905. Application iiled August S, 1904:. Serial No. 219,995.
lile it known thatl, ,l lum-n' lihmswmrrn llaau sons, a citizen ot' the United titates, residingil at North `ilulams, in the county of Berkshire and @State olE h/lassachusetts, have invented certain new and use'lul li'nprovements in lflisplay Allevices; and l d o declare the following' to be a ful l, clear, and exact description ol'I the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
lli/ly .iiivention relates to in)proveniente in display boxes, trays, cards, and the like and in sulfiports therefor. a
'.lhe object olg my invention is to provide a simple, coniparatively-inexpensive, durable, and el'licient device o'l this character which may be opened and supported in an iiielined position upon a table, sliow-case, or the like to display the goods or merchandise contained in `it and which niay be quickly and easily folded to its closed position without disturbing' its contents.
llith the above and other objects in view the invention consists ol" certain novel ileatures ol coi'istruction, conibination, and arraiugin nent ot parts, as will be hereinafter more lully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
ln the acconujianying drawings, li`igi'ue l. is a perspective view ot' my improved display device in its opened position. tig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the same in the position shown in 'lfigx 1; and liie'. 3 is a similar view, the device beine` in its closed position.
leterrine to the drawings by immoral, '1 deu notes a container or holder, here shown in the `form ol? a box, 2 a cover `lor the same, and 3 a support i'iivotally or hinged ly connectiiug' the two together. i
'.lhe container or holder l may be in the ll'orni olr a box, tray, card, or any other suitable device lor holding' or supporting' goods or articles el merchandise of any description. As shown, the device .l is in the Iiorin ot a rectangular box and comprises a bottom al, surrrnuuflinle' wall 5, and projecting' top portions l5, which aremlapted to contain suitable advertislnn' mattei' and which torni an opening' 'if in the upper side ol. the boxto receive `allel to the Vllap 10.
the articles o l mercharulise. lt will be Linderstood that any other suitable means maybe provided lor supporting'(i1-securing' the goods or mercharuflise to be displayed in the box.
lhe cover 2 is rectangular in form and is provided with a surrounding' side or liang'e 8, which is adapted to telescope over the surrounding side or wall 5 ol the box l. when placed upon the latter, as seen in Fig'. 3 olf the d rawi n ',llhe support 3, as shown, comprises a rectangular body El, lormed at one ol its sides or ends with a llap lil, and at its opposite side or end with a similar llap ll, which extends par- ',lhese Vliaps are hingedly connected, as shown at Yl2, to the body portion tl, the l'lap 210 beine,l secured to the bei; l and the llaplll tothe cover. As illustratlul, the support 5i is constructed of cardlward, the flaps lll and lll being integral and the hinges l2 being' formed by ereasii'ig' the cardboard, as shown; but it will be understood that said support may be constructed of metal or any other suitable material. A. tab 13 is secured between the Hap l() and the bottom @l to facilitn te the opening,` olE the box.
The use, operation, and advantages ol my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanvine` drawings. lVhen the device is in its opened position, as shown in liie's. l and 2 ol' the d rauf'ings, one side or edge ol the box jlV is engaged with one ot' the side flanges ol the cover 2 when the latter is in an inverted position. .lhe upper portion of the body is supported by the support 3 at any desired anule, accordingl to the length ot said support and the point at which it is attached, to the box l.. liy this construction it will be seen that the box will be held lirmly and securely, the cover 2 forming a large base to prevent the body from being' overl'iuri'ied. Vlfhen it is desired to close the device, the bon: l is elevated. to a horizontal position and the cover 2 then swung over upon the same, as shown in liig. El ol the drawings, the support 3 swiiieine' up and enenginn the under side of the body 1 and holding,l the cover in its closed position.
rr'hile l have shown and described the preof said body and an opening between said projecting top portions, a rectangular cover for said box, a support hinged at one end to the box and at its opposite end to the cover, and a tab secured to the bottom of the box for opening the same, essentially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
