COMBINATION GOLF-BAG.
Application filed March 6, 1915. Serial No. 12,610.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES S. CHAPMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combina-,
tirely of leather, or of canvas reinforced by leather, and in some cases having metal braces or rings, is sutficient. lVhen travel-y ing, however, many golfers like to have a bag provided with a closure such as a canvas flap which will go over the ends of the clubs to protect them, or which may be locked to prevent withdrawal of the clubs by unauthorized persons. At times when caddies are not available it is desirable to have a very light weight bag to enable the players to easily carry their own bags, and as such bags are usually used on Sunday they have come to be popularly known as Sunday bags.
Heretofore, so far as I am aware, it has been customary to supply entirely separate and distinct types of bags to meet these several wants, and it is the object of the present invention to provide a single structure which will unite in itself the advantages of all three kinds of bags to which reference has been made above.
The invention includes the novel features of construction and arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described, my invention being defined by the appended claims.
An embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bag. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Referring by reference characters to this drawing, the bag indicated at 1 is in its general features of construction the ordinary bag, being shown as constructed of canvas reinforced by leather as indicated at 1. and having'metallic shape sustaining rings l at top and bottom thereof. 2 designates a bag of the light or Sunday type constructed wholly of light material such as canvas and flexible throughout its entire Specification of Letters Patent.
-Patentet1 Aug. 3, 1915.
length except at topand bottom where it is provided with reinforcing rings 2 Both bags may be provided with encircling straps indicated at 1 and 2 respectively and have suitable carrying straps and pockets as shown. The inner or Sunday bag 2 is made of a size or diameter to enable it to be slid or telescoped, in inverted position into the regular bag 1,,and at a suitable distance from the bottom of the Sunday bag I provide fastening means adapted to be secured at or near the mouth of the regular bag to secure the two bags together. Such means may conveniently be in the shape of straps '2 secured to the Sunday bag and having slots (Z adapted to receive staples 1 carried by the leather reinforcement of the mouth of the regular bag. through which staples may be passed a securing strap 3. The buckle of this reinforcing strap is preferably provided with a lock as indicated at 3. When the two bags are thus assembled and held together by the strap and lock. the golf sticks or clubs are completely inclosed and covered and held from accidental or unauthorized removal. as is desirable for travcling purposes, while at other times the bags may be easily and quickly separated and used separately to suit the convenience of, the player.
.If desired instead of having the staples carried by the main bag they might be carried by the inner'or supplemental bag and pass through slots or eyes in the .main or outer bag. f
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. In combination a main golf bag, a supplemental golf bag of small diameter to telescope within the main bag in either normal or inverted position and means for securing the two bags together in partly telescoped relation when the supplemental bag is in inverted position, substantially as described.
2. In combination a main golf bag with its main body substantially stiff and a supplemental bag with its main body of flexible unstifiened material but with reinforcing rings at its top and bottom and means for securing the two bags together with their main body portions partly telescoped and with the supplemental-bag in inverted position, substantially as described.
3. In combination a main golf bag having the usual shoulder strap, a supplemental golf bag of smaller diameter than the main supplemental bag in position With its main 10 body telescoping with the main body of the main bag, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES. S. CHAPMAN.
