UNITEDy STATES Patented May 24, 1904.
I'sAAo E. Loos, oE TEENTON', NEW JEEsEY.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming` part of Letters Patent No. 760,885, dated May 24, 1904.
Application led September 4:, 1900. Serial No. 28,960. (No model.) I
To all whom, it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAo B. Loos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, whichform a part of this specification.
My invention relates to garment-support-V ers; and its .object is to provide an improved connecting device or link between two relatively movable portions of the supporter, such as the should er-straps and ends of a pair of suspenders.
It has been heretofore proposedto use a round cord for the suspender-end and let it run freely over a small grooved pulley journaled in the link or other connecting device. This pulley was placed'with its axis perpendicular to the body of the wearer, and thus made an uncomfortable projection under the clothing. 'The pulley was small and liable to Wear out quickly. v 1 f In other forms ofgarment-supporters an antifriction device has been provided consisting of a piece of sheet metal bent into cylindrical form around a small bar on the link, which it thus encircles loosely; but this tube is weak and is very liable to flatten under the strain brought upon thel strap or band passing over it. It also is liableto split open and drop ofi', leaving' the strap resting on the sharp edge of the bar. My invention aims to avoid all these difficulties 'by providing the link with a roller whose axis is parallel with the body of the wearer,l so that a flat strap or band can be used lying close to the body. Moreover, I make the roller thick and strong and provide it-with stout journals which turn freely in bearings in the link. The roller is thus enabled to withstand any strain that may be brought upon the band passing overit and is always in condition to rotate smoothly when the band is pulled to and fro. Being a solid piece of metal there is no danger of the roller fiattcning or splitting open.
thickened ends in whichl are bearingsfor thejournals d of a roller D, which fits easily between the hangers and is thereby adapted to rotate therein. The roller is a heavy solid cylinder of metal or other suitable material provided with reduced projecting ends, which form the journals d, the roller and its journals being integral.
The strap. or band E of the suspender ory the like is run through the space'labove' the roller, so as to rest thereon. The roller lies with its axis parallel with the plane of the .body A and turns freely in its bearings in the` hangers C, so that the strap can move easily through the link. To prevent the strap from pulling out when its ends are unfastened from the garment, a fold e may be made in the strap and secured by lines vof stitching or otherwise. The thickness thus produced will not pass through the space above the roller.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 'is- A link for garment-supporters, composed ing parallel hangers C having thickened ends containing bearings,'and the solid rollerD provided with integral journals 0l rotatable in said bearings with its axis parallel With the plane of the body.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
