HOSE SUPPORTER Filed May 4. 1931 Patented Oct. 25, 1932 UNITED STATES JAMES N. SIME, OF CHICGO, ILLINOIS PATENT OFFICE nosn surronnn Application filed May 4, 1931. Serial No. 534,846.
This invention relates to hose supporters and one of the objects of the invention is the provision of a new and improved garterhav ing novel means for compensating for the difierence in circumference of the parts around which the garter is secured when in use.
A further object of the invention isthe provision of a new and improved fabr1c adapted especially for use as garter material, that is is inexpensive to manufacture, easily assembled and that is form fitting and comfortable to the wearer during its use.
Other and further objects tages of the invention Will appear from the following description taken in connection. 'with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is an elevation 01. a portion of the improved fabric;
Fig. 2 is a section on line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a garter made from the improved fabric, showing its positi on in use, with the leg of the user shown in dotted lines and Fig. 4 is a vertical.section of a modified form of the fabric construction.
; defect by the provision of a garter made from a fabric in which the warp strands of rubber or other elastic material increase in crosssection from the lower edge toward the upper edge of the garter, whereby when in use presf d -notthought necessary to further illustrate or sure of the garter on the leg Will be the saine M throughout its width.
Referring now to the drawing, the referencecharacter 10.designates the abric from Which the garter 11 is made. As shown, in A Figs. 1 and 2, strands of rubber 12 are employedin the warp of the fabric. These strands may graduaily increase in cross-sectional area fr0n1 what Will be termed the lower edge of the fabric 13 toward the upper au edge 14 thereof. j
, In Fig. 3 is disclosed the conventional form of garter shown as extending.about the leg 15 and comprising the usual detachable fastner 16 and 17, the Supportingmember l8,the N3 ' hcse attaching member 19 and 21 induding the button 22 and the adjusting clip 23. Since the details of this portion of the [garter constitute no part ofthepresent invention it -is 70 describe the same. Fr0m an inspection of this figure it Will be seen that the lower edge 13 of the garter engages the calf 24 of the leg and consequently the lower edge must necessarily be stretched more than the upper edge threof.
In the construction shown in Fig. 4 the elastic warp strands 25 are separated farther apart at the lower edge 26 of the abric than they are toward the upper edge 27 thereof. Preferabiy the space between the strands graduilly decreases from the lower to the upper edge of the fabric as shown in this figure. By means of this arrangement the lower edge of the fabric when used as a garter would be more easily stretched or extended than the upper portion thereof, and since the force required for extending any one of the bands a given distance Will increase as the band is extended, allparts of the garter Will bind on the 1eg of the user with equal force. In this form of construction the strands 25 are of the same cross-sectional area throughout the entire width of the fabric.
In all cases, the fabric is so constructed that the portion that is to extend aboutthe larger circumference is more easiiy initially stretched than the remainder so that the tension Will beabout equa1 on all parts of the fabric when it is in position for use. This may be accomplished in various ways, as by ion.
using elastc warp strands of the same crosssectonal area and unevenIy spacing the strands apart, or by using strands of varying elasticty, or by varying t-he cross-sectional area of the elastic strands, but under a11 circumstances the ultimate object of the invention is no equalize the pressure on the parts throughout the width of the fabric', while the same is in use.
I daim as my invention:
1. A garter comprising an elastic baud, a clasp for connecting the ends of said band together, a hose supporting member extnding downwardly from said band, hose attaching members on the lower and of said supporting member, sad band comprising a fabric havng warp strands of rubber 0f progressvely increasing cross-sectionul area from its lower edge t0ward its upper portion, the edges of sad garter being of substantally the same length when the same is not in use.
' 2. A garter comprisng an elastic band, a clasp for connecting the ends of sad baud t0- gether, a hose supporng member extending downwzrdly from sad baud, hose attaching members on the lower end of said supportng member, said band comprising a fabric baud havng elastc Warp strands extendng throughout its width, sad strands progressively increasing in strength from the lower edge of said baud t-0Ward its upper edge with the uppermost elastic strands of a cross-sectional area greater than those of the lower strands, 3.11 0f sad strands being of substantially the same length and unextended When said garter is not in use.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
