Description
Aug. "M, m23. 3,464,744
IN VEN TOR.
ATTORNEY Patented Aug. lll, 1923.
nnwnnn v. sown or san nin-eo.
sentarme-surnomme Application filed July 2l,
A To @ZZ wir/m trmag/ concern." Y
Be itknown that l, Ens/Ann V. Bowie, a subject of the of England, residing at San liego, in the county ofSan Diego and State of `@alifornia, have invented a certain new and useful `Garment-lupporting ldelt, of which the following is a'speciiication.
My invention relates te a belt for Ysupporting garments, more particularly adapted for trousers and the objects of my invention are; first, to provide a belt for supporting trousers or other garments in which the main belt portion is supported on the hips and provided with upwardly extending flexible portions for supporting the garment at the waist line; second, toV provide abelt of this ela-ss which tends tohold the shirt or under garment down as well as the outer garment up; third, to provide a novelly constructed garment supporting belt; fourth, to provide .la belt of thisv class in which the upright supports are adjustable to different heights from the main portion of the belt andv fifth, to provide'a belt of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable,` efficient in its action and which will not readily deteriorate or get outof order.
With these and other objects in view as will yappear hereinafter, my invention con sists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference 'thereon which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view of the inner side of a fragmentary portion of the belt; Fig. 2 is a similar view of the outer side of said belt; Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed portion of the belt showing one of the upright members in position thereon; F ig. lis an edge view thereof at a right angle thereto and showing portions broken away and in section and Fig. 5 is a side elevational view on an enlarged scale showing the means for connection of the belt at the ends.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts Iand portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
The main belt member l., upright support 2 reinforcing member 3, button clips i921. serien No. teaser,
l and 5, buttons 6, reinforcing spring menn ber 7, adhesive members 8 and buckle members 9 and l0 constitute the principal parts and portions of my belt structure.
The main belt member l is iireferably a non-elastic belt member provided with bucifrle members 9 and i() on its opposite ends for connecting the ends together, forming an endless belt member, it being noted l that this buclrle member may be any shape orform desired, the shape or form of the buckle being no part of my present invention. .Secured to this main belt member i on the normally outer side thereof are a plurality of reinforcing members 3 which consist 0f fabric members securely sewed to the belt vand extending slightly below the same, as shown best in the drawings. Secured thereto at the upper side thereof is a loop member 321. lit will be noted that there are preferably six of the supports for a trousers supporting belt which are adapted to be so positioned as to engage the front buttons on the trousers at the opposite ends and the middle ones to engage the buttons on the back of the trousers. llhis reinforcing member 3 is provided with a plurality of buttons G positioned in close proximity to each other in a row adapted to support 'the Ytrousers' waist band above the belt, which belt is provided with a plurality, preferably six, of the upright members 2 which are composed preferably of fabric sewed together at the edges and double. Mounted between the two sides is a spring member 7 preferably shaped as shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawings and upon the upper end of this member 2 is secured the button engaging member land on the lower end the button engaging member 5. lt will be noted that the members e and 5 are preferably integrally connected together and form a support for the fabric member 2. The button engaging clip member 5 is adapted to button on one of the buttons 6 on the reinforcing member 3 and the member 2 extends up through the loop member 3 and the upper button engaging clip member 4 is adapted to engage one of the buttons on the inner side of the band of the trousers for supporting the trousers in position. lt will be here noted that these upright members consisting of the members 2 and 7 provide flexible members which may be bent sideways and edgeways, always conforming to the body and flexible and pliable enough to Vsupport lthe trousers against the body and in the proper position. 0n the inner side of the belt is secured, a plurality of rubber pads 8 which are provided with Aperforations 8a therein, these rubber memarrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction there is provided a belt, the main portion 1 of which may be supported considerably below the waist line on the enlarging portion ofthe hips and body, thus eliminating the necessity of wearing a tight belt at the waist line; that the members S will engage the shirt land hold it in certain positions relatively to this belt; that the uprights consisting of the members 2 and 7 with the button engaging clip members i and 5 providing means for supporting the waist band of the trousers above the belt a considerable distance, it being adjustable by connect-ing the clip member 5 with the different button 6 Von the reinforcing portion 8. iVhen in their proper' relation the trousers band will be supported considerably above the main belt support and between t-he trousers and under garment such` as a shirt or the like; that the members consisting of the members 2 and 7 provide a means which isflexible andV pliableso that it will conform to the body and its various movements relatively to the clothing.
Having thus described my invention what l' claim as new and desire to secure by Letters VPatent is:
1. A garment supporting belt, including a main belt member adapted to be supported on the hips of the wearer below the waist a main beltmember adapted to be supported on the hips of the wearer below. the waist line, buttons secured to said main belt member in verticalrows, a loop member secured to said main belt member near the upper edge of the belt, an uprightV member secured to said belt by one end buttoning on one of the buttons and extending through the loop, its upper' end provided with ay button engaging member adapted to engage the button on the garment to be supported.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto vset my hand at San Diego, California, this 14th day of July, 1921. Y
f EDWARD V. BOWE.
