SUSPENDER-CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1915.
Application filed January 26, 1915. Serial N 0. 4,417.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORTON K. YONTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender- Clasps, of which the following is a specifi- I cation.
The device which is the subject matter of the present application for patent is designed for supporting bathing nether garments without employing buttons, and its object is to provide a simple, eflicient and easily applied device of this kind.
With the herein stated object in View, the
10 having intermediate their ends inturned ears 11, the ears of the respective members lapping and being pivotally connected by pins or rivets 12 passing therethrough. On one side of the pivotal connection, above the same, the jaw members are bowed outward in opposite directions as indicated at 13, and they then converge, as indicated at 14,
one of the members terminating in a bent-' over portion or hook 15, under which hook the extremity of the other member seats,
said hook serving to limit the spread of the jaw members. The opposite endsof the jaw members are also bowed outward in opposite directions as indicated at 16, and converge to form the gripping portion of the members.
In use, a suspender cord 17 is passed between the bowed portions 13 of the jaw members 10, below the converging portions 14. The space between these converging portions is wedge-shaped, so that when the cord is drawn up into said space to press againstthe parts 14, it causes the gripping portions 16 of the jaw members to close, said gripping portions being applied to the waist-band of the trousers or other nether garment. The cord will be attached to the suspenders. It will be evident from the foregoing that the greater the strain, the tlghter the parts 16 Wlll grip, and the garment is therefore securely held without the employment of buttons.
The preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown but it will be evident that various changes in the structural details may be made without departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
I claim:
A clasp comprising opposite jaw mem ends, said members having gripping portions on one side of their pivotal connection, said members on the other side of their pivotal connection converging, and a suspension cord between said converging portions, and adapted to be wedged therebetween to operate the gripping portions of the jaw members, the extremity of one of the converging portions being hook-shaped, and the extremity of the other converging portion lying under said hook-shaped part.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
