Description
, N0. 857,645. PATENTED JUNE 25, 1907.
' vn. MAYER.
GARMENT HANGER. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 22, 1906.
J 5 mg- THE NORRIS PETERS co, wlsumarou, v. c.
EMMA MAYER, OF SUNBURY, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application filed. September 22, 1906. Serial N0. 335,797.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMA MAYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sunbury, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment hangers and especially to skirt hangers and the ob ject ofthe same is to suspend skirts or other garments in such a manner that there will be no uneven stretching of the garment suspended.
With this improved hanger garments are not torn when suspended, are securely fastened, and the hanger may be readily attached to or released from the garment.
The various features of the invention will be hereinafter more fully described and explained in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 shows the device attached to the waist band of a skirt doubled upon itself once.
Fig. 2 shows the fastener attached to the waist band of a skirt, the band doubled upon itself several times. Fig. 8 shows another form of the fastening device.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates a chain or other flexible supporting means.
2 indicates safety pins or other sliding fastening devices which engage the waist band 3 of a skirt 4. The fastening devices 2 are loosely secured on chain 1 by means of small rings or eyes 5 permanently attached to the fasteners 2. On the ends of the flexible support 1 are larger rings 6 for the purpose of suspending the garment from a hook and which also serve as stops to prevent the fastening devices from slipping off the chain.
Another form of the invention is shown in Fig. 3 in which clasps 7 are used for the fastening means. The clasps 7 are loosely secured to the chain 1 by having the latter pass through eyelets in the ends of the clasps.
The operation of the invention is as follows: The pins2 are attached to the ends and center of the waist band of a skirt after the same has been doubled upon itself once (Fig. 1). The skirt band is further doubled upon itself assuming the position as shown in Fig. 2, the fastening devices being in a line. In this latter position all parts of the skirt are suspended evenly and a uniform length of the skirt is assured at all times.
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a skirt hanger, the combination with three fastening devices adapted to engage the waist band of a skirt, said devices having eyes, of a flexible support, such as.a chain, extending through said eyes whereby when the chain is supported at its endsthe fastening devices are drawn together by the'weight I of the skirt, thus folding the garment, said support having rings at its ends of larger diameter than the eyes in the fastening devices, whereby said rings serve as a means for suspending the hanger and as stops to prevent the fastening devices from sliding off the flexible support.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMMA MAYER.
