Beit known that I,VIRGINIAR.HUMPHREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Belts,of which the following is a specification.

Myinvention relates to underwear, and has for its objects to provide a belt suitable for wearing under the corsage, to construct such belts capable of being adjusted by slipping on over the head and shoulders, to obviate the necessity for metallic buttons or fastenings, to simplify the construction of such belts, to provide a ready means for attaching catamenial sacks, bandages, or napkins to such belts and other objects as are herein set forth, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

To these ends the invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts as herein set forth," and illustrated in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a View in perspective of one of my belts and fastenings complete. Fig. 2 is a view, partly in cross-section, taken on the line 00 a; of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a flat plate entering as an element into the construction of one of my attaching-pins.

Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes the main or girdle part of one of my belts, which is essentially constructed of highly-elastic material, rendering it capable of sufficient expansion to be readily slipped over the arms and shoulders of the intended wearer.

To the main or girdle part 1 are attached tabs 2 2 by sewing against the upper edge of the girdle 1, as at 3 8. These tabs are also constructed from similar elastic material and are bent downward on the inside of the girdle, so as to lie fiat against the body when the belt is in use. The points where they are fastened by reason of sewing and joining togetherarerenderedinelastic. Sincethelower edge of the belt preferably should flare, as shown at 4 4, the edge rendered more inelastic by the attachments, as aforesaid, is placed uppermost, and in order to hold the parts in proper position the tabs may be caught by stitches at a point below, as 5, so as not to interfere with the expansibility of the belt on the lower edge.

To the lower ends of the tabs 2 2, which may be constructed of any length required, are attached fiat pins 6 6, which are preferably constructed in a hollow T shape, having an upper transverse loop 7 and a perpendicular loop or hook 8, constructed from the pin part proper, the parts being held together by a plate 9, having lips 10 and 11 arranged to clasp tightly around the end of the wire 12 and the angle of the wire 13, respectively, and clasp them tightly. An addtional lip 14 is provided as a keeper for the point 15 of the pin. The hooks of these pins are adapted for attaching to the belt catamenial napkins and the like.

The operation of the device is clearly understood from the construction. placed in. position, as before mentioned, by slipping over the head or over the feet of the wearer. The pins on the ends of the tabs are arranged so as to extend down below the belt, so as not to be held under the pressure of the corsage of the wearer, and attachments may be made or disconnected ad libitum without interference with the belt. The belt being of highly-elastic material is self-adjustable and may be made any size or width snitable to the comfort and convenience of the wearer.

Having thus described my invention, I do not wish to be confined to the exact description set forth, as it is evident the tabs may be adjusted ad Zibitum to any part of the belt, and the pins might also be varied in construction. The principal features of the pins, however, which are essential are that they be made to lie flat and have a connection to the fiat tab above, with a readily connecting and disconnecting hook having a protected point extending downward from the tab.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In an undergarment-belt of the kind described, the girdle proper mon-separable, constructed from highly-elastic material, tabs constructed from elastic material attached to The belt is .an edge thereof, the said tabs extending downward and lying flat against the inner edge of the belt, the lower edge of said belt being attached at single points to said tabs whereby the free expansibility of the lower edge of the belt and the tabs is permitted, substantially as specified.

2. A belt of the kind described comprising a continuous elastic band, a plurality of tabs jsewed to a common edge of said band and arranged to lie flat against the inner side of the band and extend beyond the other edge thereof, whereby the elasticity of the edge to which the tabs are attached is curtailed, and the elasticity of the opposite edge of the belt 3. In a belt of the kind described, a con tinuous elastic band, elastic tabs sewed to an edge thereof designed to be worn uppermost, and attachments securing said tabs on the inner side of the band, whereby the lower edge thereof is permitted to flare substantially as specified.
