Be it known that we, CLARENCE M. Con- Lnw, EPHRAIM SCUDDER, and JERRY CABLE- ToN, citizens of the United States, and residents of Sioux Falls, in the county of Minnehaha and State of South Dakota, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hose-Sup orters, of which the following is a specification.

One of the principal objects of our invention is to provide an improved garter or hose supporter especially designed and adapted for use in connection with knee length underwear.

A further object of the invention contemplates the provision of an improved elastic hose supporter designed to connect the hose to the undergarment in such manner as to be readily and quickly attached and detached without risk of lacerating or injuring the fabric, and especially designed to hold the underwear and hose in their proper relative position and without encircling the leg or otherwise causing injurious pressure thereon.

With these and other objects in view which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures, of which*- Figure l represents a front elevational view of the improved supporter in use.

Our present invention is an improvement on the hose supporter forming the subject of Patent Number 1182395, granted to Clarence M. Corlew, dated March 16, 1915.

In carrying out our invention, we provide a supporter including an upper elastic arm A and lower diverging elastic arms B. The arms are connected at their inner ends to a central polygonal, preferably five-sided web Specification of Letters Patent.

strong resistant material, and the facing piece of silk or other like material, which together form the web portion 5. The backing and 'facing pieces and inner end portions of the elastic strips, are then all stitched together, thus securely anchoring the inner ends of the strips to the web 5. i

The upper arm A is somewhat longer than the lower arms and lies in such relation with them that a continuation of the upper arm would bisect the angle formed by the lower arms B.

Each of the arms of the supporter is equipped at its outer end with one of the clasps 7. The construction of these clasps differs from the construction of the clasps shown in the above mentioned patent only in that apices 8 of the clasps are rounded rather than pointed, and further detailed description of the clasps, it is thought, therefore, is not necessary. The clasps 7 are each connected-to one of the arms by having the outer ends of the strips forming the arm bent over the members 9 of the clasps and secured in place against the strip by means of the clips or bands 10 shown in Fig. 4. The bands each encircle one of the strips adjacent the clasps, looping over the overbent end of the strip, and when the bands are clenched in place, the overturned ends of the strips are secured against the body portions thereof through the medium of the prongs or spurs l1 being passed through the material.

In use, as shown in Fig. 1, the lower clasps 7 of the supporter are attached to the hose by folding the material of the hose at the proper places and drawing the clasps thereover so that the fold will be engaged between the gripping jaws of the clasps. The upper clasp is then in like manner attached to the undergarment. The supporter is arranged preferably on the outside of the leg of the wearer' at about the middle of the knee. The supporter operates not only to hold the hose in place with but two points of contact, but tends to draw the top of the hose more firmly about the leg, through the action of the elastic arms tending to draw the clasps carried by the lower arms toward each other. The supporter also operates to hold the undergarment down in place and prevent its working upwardly on the leg of the wearer, and at the same time the supporter, in giving and allowing free play of all movements of the leg, Will aiford a degree of comfort not ordinarily attained by devices of this class.

Although it is desirable that all three of the arms of the supporter be made of elastic material, it may be preferable in some in stances to make one or more of them of nonelastic material. The operation of the device in the latter instance would attain the resultspointed out, although not to ysuch degree as When all the arms of the supporter are elastic.-

We claim A clasp member for vhose supporters, com'- prising a piece of Wire formed to present a bar and a curved portion connecting the ends of the bar, said bar having a rentrant portion intermediate the ends of the same and forming gripping jaws lying alongside each other and approximately perpendicular to the bar, the clasp at the connected ends of the jaws being enlargedto form a loop or eye, said clasp being formed from a Wire bent to shape and having its ends connected With interengaging eyes, said eyes being at one end ofthe bar and at the adjacent end of the curved portion.
