Description

PATE'NTED APR 7, 1908.
B. NEWTON. GARMENT SUPPORTER. APPLIUATIOH FILED JUEE 1, {[907- INVENTOI? fiZcmc/ze Jzuiom WITNESSES By W a A77'0HNEYS rain it may concern:
BLAN CHE NEWTON PARDEEVILLE, WISCONSIN.
Be it known that I, BiiANoHn NEWTON, a' citizen of the United'States, and a resident of Parde-eville, in the county of Columbia and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact. description. 7 v
This invention relates to certain im roivements in garment supporters-adapted or use in supporting gloves, stockings, orbthei similar articles of wearing'apparel, and the object of the invention s to provide av device readily appliedfand adjusted to the desired position and adaptedto support the garment at-a plurality, of points around theirin or 'le'g to prevent sagging or wrinkling;
- .A further ob ectof the inventien is to provide .a garment supporter which will be sub;
The invention. consists in certain features of construction and combination'of parts, all
supporter; F1g.-2 is a view of the glove spaced from the arment supporter and about to be attached tiereto; Fig.3 illustrates an other use of my im roved device; ,and Fig? 4 is a section throug the parts illustrated in Fig/.13.
l y improved garment supporter-com prises a band 170 either elastic or non-elastic and formed ot any suitable material, as, for instance, webbing. The band may be made in a continuous piece, or may be provided with any suitable device, as, for instance, a clasp 11 fordetachably connecting together the ends thereof. At a plurality of points along the band I provide buttons 12, preferably of the form commonly employed in spring clasps, and these buttons are prefera ly secured intermediate the side edges of the The buttons may be secured to the band in any suitable manner common in the art. Adjacent each button I pivotally connect a loop 13 preferably formed of spring Specification of Letterc'Patent.

' the passage of thebutton. This opening is refe'rably narrower at the free end of the oop'than at the end near the pivotal connection, and said loo is adapted to surround the button and old the material therebetween, as is indicated in Figs. 3 and 4.
The loop is preferably connected to the band adjacent the edge thereof, so as to lie in a plane substantially parallel to the adjacent portionof the band when it is in its operative position. In order to bring the loop into operativeposition the edge of the garment 14 is placed 'over the button, and the fabric of the band intermediate the button and the pivotal connection of the loop is bent to permit the largerv portion of the loop to pass over.
the button afld'garment covering the same. The bandis then straightened at this point v andythe loop drawn to such a position that stantially concealed by the garment when in. use, thus permitting of -its use in connection the smaller portion thereof incloses the reduced neck ortion 'of the button and securely holds t e=edge of the garment in place.
If desired, I may provide the garment with a-plurality of sockets 15 adjacent the edge thereof and adapted to receive the buttons 12 and be held in engagement therewith by the frictional engagement or spring pressure. The button and the loop 13 or the button and-the socket member 15 constitute the coacting members of the fastening device, and as many of these fastening devices .may 'be provided along the -length of the band-as may be desired. The buttons being rovided intermediatethe side edges of the and necessitates the lacing of the edge of the garment on top of the band in order to secure the garment in place,j and in this manner a large portion of the band, if not the entire band, is concealed by the garment. The bands are preferably provided with both the buttons 12 and the .loops 13, 'whereby'the device may be used either for supporting garments having sockets 15 carried thereby or for supporting garments which do not have said sockets.
Having thus described my invention,'I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent; g
1. A garment supporter, comprising a band, a fastening device including two 00- acting members, and independent means for securing each of said members to said band adjacent each other and intermediate the ends thereof.
2. A garment supporter, comprising a band and a fastening device, including two coaeting members, one of said members being secured to the band intermediate the side edges thereof and the other of said members being secured to the band adjacent the edge thereof.
3. A garment supporter, comprising a bandadapted to encircle the limb and providedwith an outwardly-projecting button, and a loop having flexible connections with said band and adapted to engage with said button.
4. A garment supporter, comprising a band, and" means for securing a garment thereto, said means comprisin two-coacting members secured to said ban intermediate the ends thereof and independently of each other and adapted to hold the garment therebetween.
5. A garment supporter, com rising a band adapted to encircle the lim a plurality of buttons carried thereb and means for securing a garment to said uttons, said means including a plurality of loops adjacent said buttons.
one of said members comprising a button rigidly secured to the band, and the other of said members adapted to inclose said button and secure a garment thereto and mov ably connected to said band.
8. In a garment supporter, the combination of a band and two coacting members 9. A garment supporter, comfprising an elastic band, and a plurality fastening devices carried thereby, each ofsaid fastening devices comprising a button, and a member adapted to inclose said button and secure a garment thereto, said button and member being secured to said band independently or each other.
10. A garment supporter, comprising an elastic band having a plurality of buttons secured thereto intermediate its side edges, and means for securing a garment to said buttons,said means comprising a plurality of loops pivotally secured to said band adjacent one edge thereof.-
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
