1 Claim. (Cl. 2-312) This invention relates to a stocking clamping garter.

An object of the invention is the provision of a very useful device for supporting the stocking in proper position upon the leg of a human being.

Another object of the invention is to provide a garter that will cling to the leg with a minimum amount of heat, especially during hot weather, and which is provided with means for creating some vacuum or better allowing the garter to hold to the skin.

A further object of the invention is to provide means in a garter which will leave a large portion of the foam rubber band thereof unobstructed, whereby the garter will cling better to the leg.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an eicient garter which will allow the wearer to bend the knee, and while so doing a minimum amount of the strain will be only on the supported stocking, as the whole structure of the garter is such as to perform admirably.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a ladys stocking upon which a device constructed in accordance with the present invention is mounted.

This device or garter comprises an inner foam rubber band 2, which is provided with perforations 3 for coolness and further to create a small amount of vacuum for allowing the device to hold better on the skin. Against the outer side of the rubber foam band 2 is a stiif rubber band 4. This stiff rubber or elastic band 4 and the foam rubber band 2 are held together at their bottom edge by overstitching 5, Figs. 3 and 4. At the top edges of the two it tates Patent O bands there are overstitchings 6, under which the upper 6 edges of the elastic stiff strap 7 are positioned, Figs. 3 and 4. It will, therefore, be seen that the upper stitching 6 performs a dual function by reason of it reinforcing the top edges of the bands while at the same time "icc secures the elastic stiff straps 7 in place. On each strap 7 is positioned a knob 8. A split strap 9 is secured at 10 to the inner face of the foam band 2, but this strap 9 does not extend far down the inner face of the foam band 2, thereby not interfering but very little with foam band 2. This Apositioning of the inner ends of the spilt strap 9 relatively high up on the foam band 2 permits the user to bring the stocking over the top of the bands and down slightly the inner side thereof (Fig. 3). In other words,

the stocking cannot be tucked below the point of the securing means at 10, whereby a large portion of the skin is contacting the foam band, thereby increasing itsv clinging ability.

After the user has positioned the stocking as shown in Figure 3 the eyelet 11 is brought 'down and placed over the knob 8, clamping a portion of the stocking upon the knob 8, thereby securely retaining the stocking ll in position without wrinkling.

The structure, therefore, is made so that when the knee bends, the device allows the stocking to give at the same time, resulting in the stocking not taking all of the strain, and also increasing the life of the stocking.

It is also to be understood that when downward pull is exerted on the stocking that may be held by the knob and eyelet, there is a suicient give to the strap 7 in each instance, to allow a slight downward movement while at the same time there is sufficient room for split strap 9 to move downwardly too, as seen in Figure 3, without any strain on the stocking 1 being held on knob 8.

While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

In a stocking clamping garter, the combination of a foam rubber band, a stiff rubber band superimposed on the exterior face of said foam rubber band, overstitching on the upper and lower edges ofsaid bands securing the same together, an elastic stiif strap on the outside of said stiff rubber band, some of the overstitching at the top edges of said bands having the upper edge of the elastic strap thereunder and securing the elastic strap in place on the bands adjacent the upper edge thereof, said elastic stiff strap being provided with a knob, a split strip secured at its end to the inner side of said foam rubber band below the attached end of said first-mentioned elastic sti strap, a loop-engaging head on said split strip for engagement with said knob, and said split strip normally extending over the top edges of said foam and stiff rubber bands.
