Description

No. 689,589. Patented Dec. 24, MIDI. W. G. HULLHORST. v
DENTISTS CABINET.
' (Application filed Jan. 29, 1900.)
(No l lodel.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE."
IVILLIAM G. HULLHORST, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
DENTlSTiS CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 689,589, dated December 24, 1901. Application filed January 29,1900. Serial No. 31079- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. H LL- HORST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, Lucas county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dentists Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to and its object is to provide a cabinet for dentists and others requiring a great variety of small tools and instruments, in which cabinet the drawers, compartments, and instrument-racks are readily accessible and which may be closed and secured against dust and intrusion by means of a single lock or fastening. I attain these objects by means of the devices and arrangement of parts herein described, and shown and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, made part hereof, in which- V Figure 1 illustrates in perspective my cabinet opened; Fig. 2, the same closed, and Fig. 3 a top plan view of the instrument-rack hereinafter referred to.
In the drawings, a is the casing or body of the cabinet, which I prefer to divide at top into three vertical compartments, one of which, b,is closed by door 0, themiddle cornpartment (1 containing an instrument holder or rack e, the other compartment containing a series of drawers ff, hinged at one end, so that they may be swung into and out of their respective places or arranged to be drawn out or pushed in in a straight line in the usual manner.
The instrument-rack 6 consists of a block or series of blocks pierced with inclined holes arranged in horizontal rows one above another, as shown in Fig. 1, for the reception of small tools and instruments. The opposite side of this rack is finished to correspond with the exterior finish of the cabinet, as a panel or otherwise. This rack at top and bottom is centrally pivoted, as at g, to the pieces forming the top and bottom of its compartment, so that the piece 6 may be swung upon its vertical axis to present to the operator either its front or rear side. One of the vertical margins of the piece 6 is provided with a flange h, which when the instrument-rack is turned with its contents into the cabinet overlaps the adjacent vertical margins of the drawers f. The door 0' is provided with a look i, and when the door is closed against a stop lo the bolt of'the lock 1 may be thrown into engagement with the piece 6. It will be seen that now the drawers are secured against opening by the overlapping flange h, that the piece e is held against turning by the lock '5, and that the door is locked by the engage ment of the lock with the margin of the piece e, so that the three compartments are thus se= cured by the use of a single lock.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In a dentists cabinet, a series of drawers, an implement-holder, pivots for said holder whereby the same may be rotated on its ver= tical axis, and means on said holder adapted to overlap the margin of said drawers when the holder is in closed position.
2. In a dentists cabinet, a piece or panel arranged on one side as an implement-holder, its opposite side being finished as part of the cabinet exterior, pivots whereby said piece or panel may be rotated on its vertical axis, and a door adjacent to said rotatory piece or panel, and means for detachably engaging said door with said piece or panel.
3. A dentists cabinet, comprising a series of drawers, one above another, a piece or panel arranged on one side for the reception of im-- plements and having its other side finished to correspond with the cabinet exterior, pivots for said piece or panel whereby the piece or panel may be horizontally rotated, at flange on said piece or panel adapted to overlap the margins of the adjacent drawers when in closed position, and means for detachably securing said rotatory piece or panel in closed position.
WILLIAM G. I-IULLHORST.
In presence of-- WILBER A. OWEN, L. E. BROWN.
