IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED DESKS AND BAGGAGE-CHECK'BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,028, dated October 19, 1875; application filed August 28, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Geo. E. NIoHoLs, of Memphis, county of Shelby and State of Tenncssee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Desk and Checkscribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a perspective view, showing my invention ready for use. showing my invention closed and ready for movement.
A represents the exterior case, made in rectangular form, of any suitable dimensions, and supported at one end upon two wheels, B B, and at the other end upon a swiveled or caster wheel, 0, so that it can easily be moved to any place where required. The case A is, by two transverse vertical partitions, a, a, divided into three separate and distinct compartments, the center one of which is provided with a series of check-racks, D D, and above the same, immediately under the top of the case, is a drawer, E, for containing stationery, pens, and similar articles. This center compartment is closed in front by a door formed Fig. 2 is a side view,-
in sections, G Gr, hinged horizontally together, and to the top of the case. This sectional door, when opened and thrown over' the top of the case, rests upon inclined supports H H, and forms a suitable and convenient desk. The two end compartments of the caseAare formed with a book-case, I, pigeon-holes J, any desired number of large and small drawers K, and other open spaces or compartments L. These various divisions may be arranged in any suitable and convenient manner to contain such articles as may be generally needed in a baggage-room. For instance, there should be formed a mail-box, and space or drawer for baggage way-bills, &c.; a box for nails, hammer, and saw; a space for lamps and oilcans; a drawer for matches, lamp-wick, 8210., and so on. The side compartments thus arranged are provided with doors G, so as to be closed and locked when desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pateu t, is-
The case A, provided with the sectional door G, hinged at the top, so that it can be thrown back and rest on the supports H H, and form a desk-top, substantially as shown and described.
