ATTORNEYS- UNITED STATES FREDERIK H. HUNGUS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CABIN ET WASH-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Pat'nt No. 416,919, dated December 10, 1889.
Application filed January 12, 1389. Serial No. 295,920. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERIK H. HUNGU's, a citizen of Germany, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinet \Vash-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved cabinet wash-stand that can be entirely closed up when not in use; and the invention consists of a cabinet wash-stand provided with side and rear Walls, a recessed top plate, hinged front doors, and a hinged top lid, said doors and lid being provided with looking-glasses, so that they can be used conveniently as mirrors when the wash-stand is in open position.
The invention consists, also, of the combination, with a bureau or other piece of furniture, of a wash-stand formed of side and rear walls, hinged front doors, a recessed top, and a lid hinged to said top.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved cabinet wash-stand, shown in open positidn. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, shown in closed position; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on line :1: 00, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
In the drawings the wash-stand is shown as arranged above a bureau A, having a suitable number of drawers. The side and rear walls of the bureau A are extended in an upward direction above .the top of the bureau, so as to inclose a space of sumcient size for a washstand. This space is closed by hinged front clasp d, which engages the lower edge of the looking-glass, so as to permit it to be used when the top lidis in open position,as shown in Fig. 1. \Vhen releasing the clasp d and closing the top lid, the looking-glass assumes a I pendent position at the front part of the washstand, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1,which is of special convenience for ladies, in connec-. tion with the looking-glasses of the front doors C, in dressing their hair. The top lid D rests on ledges b of the recessed top plate, and is retained in position by arc-shaped guide-strips e, which are attached to the lid D, guided in a recess 6 of the ledges, and
clamped by set-screws e as shown in Fig. l.-
When the doors 0 and lid D are opened, the wash-stand is accessible, it containing all the accessories of a Wash-stand, such as a basin, pitcher, soap -dish, towel-rack, &c. When the doors are closed, the wash-stand is out of sight, so that it can be located in any room without the objectionable appearance of a wash-stand.
Above the top of the Wash-stand is arranged an ornamental panel, which may also be provided with a looking-glass for additionalornavclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A cabinet wash-stand or other piece of furniture formed of side and rear Walls, hinged front doors, a recessed top, a cover hinged to said top, a mirror hinged at its upper edge to said cover, and a locking device that engages or releases the lower edge of said mirror, so as to retain it 011 the cover or permit it to hang in a pendent position therefrom, substantially as set forth.
In testimonythat I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of. two, subscribing witnesses.
FREDERIK II. I-IUNGUS. lVit-nesses:
PAUL GOEPEL, J OHN A. STRALEY.
