ABRAHAM ATLAS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENDER-TERMINAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 687,551, dated November 26, 1901.
4 Application filed January 25, 1901. Serial No. 44,705. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM ATLAS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, Manhattan borough, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Terminals, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, and in the latter- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a suspender-terminal embodying my said improvements. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of said terminal. Fig. 3 is an edge view thereof. Fig. 4 is a view illustrating the blank which I employ in the construction of my improved sus-v pender-terminal.
Similar reference numerals denote like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in devices of that class commonly known as Suspender-terminals, the same being utilized at Suspender-ends as a loop or sling for carrying the usual button connection and for supporting the drawers of the user.
The object of this invention is to provide a terminal for suspenders which shall be simple, inexpensive, and novel as regards construction, durable and efficient in operation, and which shall possess certain well-defined advantages, particularly as regards strainresistingqualities and cost of production, over prior analogous devices.
The invention consists in the employment of a certain novelly-formed blank, in the novel adjustment of said blank upon and with respect to itself, and in certain details of construction, all of which will be specifically referred to hereinafter and set forth in the appended claims.
Having reference to the accompanying drawings, I employ a blank or form which may be cut, as by means of a suitable die, or otherwise produced from leather or other suitable flexible material. This blank comprises a main portion 2, adapted to be folded upon itself, as through the link or bucklependant 3, and secured in such folded position, as by means of a fastener 4, to permit which the main portion 2 is perforated, as at 5. The main portion 2 is provided with a member 6, hereinafter called the primary extension, and a further member 7, hereinafter called the secondary extension. The primary extension 6 is provided with open slots or kerfs 8 S at the respective edges thereof and located one diametrically opposite the other. The function of these kerfs will appear hereinafter. The extension 7 terminates in a reinforcing-strip 9 and a plurality of supporting-leaders 1O 10, one at each side of the reinforcing-strip 9, and said leaders are tied or fastened together at their ends, as by means of the shank 11 of the clasp 12, the latter of well-known construction. In the first instance the main portion 2 is folded upon itself through the bucklependant3andsecuredbymeansofthefastener 4, as hereinbefore explained, whereupon the extension 6 is passed forward between the leaders 1O 10, its free end is fastened to the free end of the reinforcing-strip 9, as by means of the catch 13, the leaders 1O 10 are urged backward, respectively, to engagement with the kerfs 8 S, and when the extension 6, together with its conjoined reinforcingstrip 9, is looped upward as a unit the catch 13 may have a locking engagement with the keeper or stud 14 of the fastener 4, the said extension forming a link or sling in which may ride the usual button connection and the strip 9 serving to materially reinforce said extension.
The blank from which my improved terminal is constructed may be produced with a single die. Its Various members are formed integral with the main portion thereof, and when adjusted upon and with respect to itself, as herein described, a plurality of leaders 1O 10 are provided, thus strengthening the device in this connection, and the reinforcing-strip 9, being formed integral with the extension 7, requires fastening only at one point, thus again strengthening the device.
It is obvious that the details of construction of my improved terminal may be modified somewhat-as, for instance, the forming integral of the leaders 1010 at their free endswithout material departure from the spirit and principle of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A blank or form for use in constructing a Suspender-terminal comprising a main portion provided with extensions 6 and 7, the extension 7 terminating in three parallel, elongated, integrant members, the medial one of which constitutes a reinforcing-strip and the remaining ones of which constitute supporting-leaders adapted to be united at their ends, and the said extension 6 having kerfs, one at each longitudinaledge thereof, adapted to be engaged each by one of said leaders when the main portion'of said blankis folded upon itself and the ends of said leaders are united.
ment therewith when the main portion of said blank is folded upon itself and the ends of said leaders are united.
3. A Suspender-terminal comprisinga main portion folded and secured upon itself; a secthe latter respectively engaging said kerfs, and means for locking said fastened primary extension and reinforcing-strip in a looped position, substantially as herein specified.
