UNTTLD STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. BEE AND THOMAS B. CAMPBELL, JR., OF NEV KENSINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
SAFETY WATCH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 681,676, dated September 3, 1901.
Application filed June 2, 1900.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN H. BEE and THOMAS B. CAMPBELL, J r., citizens of the United States, residing at New Kensington, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Safety 1Watch-ltlolder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relatesy to a safety watchholder; and the object thereof is to provide a simple and inexpensive device to be secured in the pocket for the purpose of engaging the stem of the Watch and retaining the latter from accidental displacement and to protect the same from theft, the device securely holding the watch in one position in the pocket, thus increasing its accuracy as a timepiece, the holder being so constructed as to permit of the ready insertion and withdrawal of the stem of the watch therefrom.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claim hereto annexed, and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a view showing our holder in position in the pocket, the outer wall of the latter being broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the holder with one of the securing-buttons removed.
Referring now more particularly to the said drawings, A designates the back or body plate of the holder, formed of spring metal, with a central offset or bend B to receive the stem of the Watch and enlarged at its ends to form larger bearing oren ga-ging surfaces, from the outer surface of which the studs C project, said studs designed to be passed through the inner Wall of the pocket and to receive the buttons D, which are threaded thereon and which securely hold the holder in position in the pocket. Spring clamping-arms E are formed integrally with the back plate and are curved inwardly and toward each other with their ends terminating short of each other and curved outwardly to form a liaring Serial No. 18,898. (No model.)
entrance F, which is opposite the bend in the back or body plate. These arms, which constitute a clasp, are provided at their opposing ends with round or oval-shaped heads G to permit the ready insertion and removal of the watch stem and to hold the stem firmly against the back plate.
The holder is covered with chamois-skin or felt to prevent the same from wearing or scratching the watch.
The Watch is positioned in the pocket With the stem inserted in the holder, the springarms of the latter engaging the stem in front and pressing it into the bend of the back plate.
It will be seen by the above description that our holder is very simple in construction and convenient in its attachment to the pocket and that by its use the Watch is retained in one position, so that its efficiency as a timepiece is increased and at the same time the accidental displacement or theft of the watch from the pocket is guarded against.
Having thus fully described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A safety-holder for watches, comprising an elongated plate formed with a central bend, and having its ends bent inwardly to form clamping-arms and enlarged adjacent to the inner ends of said arms, said arms having their meeting ends terminating short of each other and curved outwardly and provided with rounded heads, the meeting ends of said arms being disposed in front of the bend in said plate, threaded studs projecting from the enlarged portions of the plate, buttons for said threaded studs, and a covering of exible material for the portions of the holder contacting with the Watch, substantially as described.
