{UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL D. ERB, OF SHIREMANTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
WORK-HOLDER.
$PEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,950, dated September 11, 1894.
Application filed June 22, 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known, that I, SAMUEL D. ERB, of Shiremantown, in the county of Cumberland and btate of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Work- Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to improvements in work holders and particularly to that class in which the work is held by a device attached to the dress of the sewing woman, for instance, and it consists in certain novel details of construction all of which will be described in the following specification and pointed out particularly in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the guard or shield broken away.
Similar letters of reference in both figures indicate the same parts.
In the preferred construction, the device consists of a single piece of wire bent about midway of its length to form a coil A, and its ends extend from this coil and form the members B and O, the latter of which is movable and has a pointed end, forming a pin by which the device may be attached to the desired article. The other member B is stav tionary and at the end opposite to the coil is bent up and back to form the work hold- Serial No. 515,411- (No model.)
desired, without the necessity of having to unfasten the device from the dress, as is the case where an ordinary pin is used to fasten the work to the dress to hold it.
It will be noted that the device is very simple, can be cheaply made, and is admirably adapted for the usefor which it is intended, as it holds the work securely and is not liable to become nnfastened.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- As a new article of manufacture a work holder formed of a single piece of wire, pointed at both ends, having the short reversely turned work holding hook E at one end, the coilor spring A intermediate the ends, the straight movable spring attaching pin or arm O. and the guard D at the base of the hook E; substantially as described.
