GARMENT GLA'SP. No. 555,746. I Patented Mar. 3, 1896.
lwuwwto z llNiTnn STATES PATENT Grmcn.
\ IVALDO V. SNYDER, OF CLEVELAND, OIIIO.
GARMENT-CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 555,746, dated March 3, 1896.
Application filed July 12,1895. Serial No. 555,705. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VVALDO V. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Clasps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a view showing the clasp open. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the clasp closed. Fig. 3 is a side view showing the lever removed. Fig. A is a side view of the clasp, showing the lever placed in proper position. Fig. 5 is a view showing the member of the clasp to which the lever is pivoted. Fig. 6 is a detached view of the lever. Fig. '7 is an end view of the clasp, showing the same open.
The present invention has relation to garment-clasps; and it consists in the diliferent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, aand to represent the members of the clasp, which are formed of a single piece and-of spring metal. The members a and a are bent so as to provide for attaching the ring I) or its equivalent, which ring is preferably located as illustrated in the drawings. To the member a is pivotally attached the lever A, which lever extends through the opening 0, formed in the member a, and its free end or portion is provided with an enlarged portion or disk d and the hook cl, which hook is for the purpose of entering the small aperture d and thereby preventing any accidental displacement of the lever after the hook d is entered into the L-shaped slot 13, after which the side lever is moved laterally, so as to engage the hook with the aperture d, and thereby securely clamp and hold the members a and a together. Then it is desired to release the clasp proper from the garment the leverAis pressed at its free end and moved laterally until the hook (1 comes directly under the angled portion of the slot B, which is parallel with the member a, at which time the lever A is free, and the members a and a open by reason of the spring of the metal for the purpose of preventing the teeth a from injuring the garment.
The member a. is formed without teeth and is bent or curved at its free end, so that it will stand over or beyond the teeth, thereby causing the pull or strain to come more direct upon the member a.
I have described my invention as a garmentclasp, and it will be understood that the clasp can be applied to various garments without departing from the nature of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 1. As an improved article of manufacture the garment-clasp consisting of the members a and a, formed of a single piece and of spring metal; the lever A, pivotally connected to one of the members and extended through the other member, and provided with a hook at its free end, the L-shaped slot B, formed in one of the'members of the clasp, and an ap erture (1 substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. As an improved article of manufacture a garment-clasp, consisting of two members formed of spring metal and of a single piece, a pivoted lever provided at its free end with a hook or point and a slot and aperture formed in one of the members below the free end of the lever, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WALDO V. SNYDER.
