Description

'W. E. ORUMP;
(No Model.)
, CLOTHES PIN. No. 494,414;
Patented Mar. 28, 1893.
Witnesse UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' WILLIAM E. ORUMP, OF SEALY, TEXAS.
CLOTHES-PIN.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 494,414, dated Mareh 28, 1893.
Application filed October l0, I892-- SerialNo. 448,393. (No model.)
To all whom it i'rlay concern:
Be'it known that 1, WILLIAM E. ORUMP, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sealy, in the county of Austin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Pins; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
' Figure 1 of the drawings is a front View of line pin and article attached and Fig. 2 is an enlarged view in perspective of the pin. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the pin.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in metallic clothes pins, the object being to provide apin of simple construction and low cost, which is capable of being used in connection with'either a rope or wire line; which will not be blown from the line, although capable of being readily attached to and detached from the same,
I and which will not rust or tear the clothes.
With these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
' As shown in the accompanying drawings, the pin consists of a single piece A of wire, the end portions of which are bent downwardly atsubstantially right angles and back upon themselves to form the double parallel arms or loops a, a, standing in a plane at right angles to that of the pin. At theirlower por-' tions, said arms or loops are swelled to form the eyes I), b. Said arms are united by the horizontal arm B, which at its central portion is formed into a single circular coil 0 of comparatively large diameter, and occupying a plane parallel with that of the arms a, a. The
end portions of this coil are separated by'an oblique opening 0'.
The pin is applied to a line in the'manner shown in Fig. 1, the line being inserted into the large coil 0 through the opening 0'. The
claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. The herein described metal clothes pin,
comprising the parallel end loop arms a, a, the connecting horizontal portion B, and the open coil C, in said horizontal portion, substantially as specified.
2. The'herein described metal clothes pin,
consisting of a single piece of wire,formed at its end portions into depending parallel loop arms a, a, a horizontal arm connecting said arms, the central portion of said arm having a depending circular single coil parallel with the arms a, a, and having its ends separated by an oblique opening 0, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM E. ORUMP.
Witnesses:
B. G. HARRIS, J. P. AIKEN.
