UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTEIWIAS P. RICHARDSON AND EUGENE STANLEY RICHARDSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA; SAID ARTEMAS P. RICHARDSON ASSIGNOR TO SAID EUGENE STANLEY RICHARDSON.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,300, dated June 24, 1902.
Application filed February 25, 1902. Serial No. 95,555. (No model.) I
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ARTEMAS P. RICHARD- SON and EUGENE STANLEY RICHARDSON, citizens of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in a garment-supporter; and it consists of a body portion having means for attaching the same to a garment and for supporting the same on the wearer.
Figure 1 represents an elevation of a garment-supporter embodying our invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof. gig. 3 represents a sectional view on line one,
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a garment-supporter having a body portion B, in the upper portion of which is a slot C, and having struck up from said body portion a finger D, forming slots E and F between said finger and said body portion, the lower portion of the latter being provided with a, slot G, one wall, K, of which is provided with a compound bend, and said slot G in the present instance extends at an angle to the slots between the body portion and the finger and is adapted to receive the garment to be supported, it being seen that the body portion has a bend at L, whereby the lower portion is in a difierent plane from the upper portion, and that the free end of said finger D is curved, as at H, in the opposite direction from the bend L for ease of inserting the supporting means.
It will be noted that the upper portion of the garment-supporter is inclined, as at J, and that the slot C extends in the body portion at substantially the same angle as the upper portion of the garment-supporter.
The operation is as follows: Elastic or other suitable material is secured to the body portion through the slot C, and after passing around the leg of the wearer is inserted in the slots E and F, and the garment-supporter is thus held in position while a portion of the garment to be supported enters the slot Grin the body portion B and is thereby supported, it being seen that this device obviates the sewing on of buttons, the use of clips, that it can be quickly and easily manipulated, andthat it is durable.
It will be evident that changes may be made by those skilled in the art which will come within the scope of our'invention; but we do not, therefore, desire to be limited in every instance to the exact construction herein shown and described.
Having thus described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a garment-supporter, a body portion with a slot in the upper portion thereof, and with slots extending at an angle to the firstmentioned slot forming a finger and having formed in the lower portion thereof, a slot extending at an angle to said second-mentioned slots.
2. In a garment-supporter, a body portion formed with a slot in the upper portion thereof, a finger projecting from said body portion forming slots on each side thereof and said body portion having formed in its lower part a slot adapted to receive a garment.
3. In a garmentsupporter, a body portion, means for securing the same to elastic or other suitable material a finger on said body portion having an end which is curved from the plane of said body portion and said body portion being formed with a slot in its lower .part adapted to receive the garment.
4.. A garment supporter, a body portion formed with a slot in its upper portion a finger on said body portion forming slots on each side thereof, said slots extending at an angle to the first-mentioned slot and said body portion being provided with a slot in .its lower portion extending at a different angle to the slots above mentioned.
5. In a garment-supporter, a body portion, means for securing the same to elastic or other suitable material, a finger on said body portion forming the slots on each side thereof an end of said finger being curved from means for securing the same to elastic or other suitable material a finger on said body portion forming slots on each side thereof the I 5 lower portion of said body portion formed with a slot one wall of which is provided with a compound bend.
