Description
(No Model.) I
T. MANNING.
GARMENT SUPPORTER.
NO. 480,820. Patented Aug. 16, 1892.
UNITED :STATEs PATENT GFFIOE.
THOMAS MANNING, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 110,480,820, dated August 16, 1892.
Application filed April 19, 1892- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS MANNING, of the city of Denver, Arapahoe county, and State of Oolorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding up Undergarments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates toimprovements in devices for holding up undergarments; and it consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and designated in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my complete invention detached from the garments. Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing the application of the same, and Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the wire from which the article is made.
The object of my invention is to construct a novel and simplified fastener for supporting a suitable undergarment, to which the same is removably attached, and is adapted to be hooked over the upper edge of the waistband of the pantaloons.
My invention consists of a hook or hooks constructed from a single piece of metal and bent in the form hereinafter described and shown, which also provides means for attaching the same to the undergarment.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a single piece of wire from which the supporter is formed, and is preferably constructed of suitable wire; but by preference wire of elliptical shape in cross-section is employed. The said length of wire 1 is bent in two places intermediate of its length, leaving a straight portion 2, and the extensions or remaining portions of the wire 3 bent a suitable distance from said straight portion 2, as shown at 4. The said extensions 3 are again bent at right angles, or nearly so, as shown at 5, forming a hook 6 from the said length of wire. The said parallel extensions 3 are of suitable length and at a suitable distance from the bonds 5. Bends 7 are formed in the said extension at right Serial No. 429,806. (No model.)
angles to the. same, leaving a sufficient space for the thickness of the undergarment about the belt portion thereof.
9 represents straight portions, which are formed by the bend 7 forming two hooks, and the extreme terminal ends of the said portions, of the extensions 3 are sharpened and bent inwardly, in order that when the said supporter is attached to the said garment the said hooks Will not in any way come in contact with the pantaloons.
In Fig. 2 is shown the device as applied to the garments or the wearing-apparel, and in are passed through the belt portions from the inside thereof and the points embedded in the outside of the said belt, as shown, making a smooth surface of the outside of said belt.
When the device is properly attached to the garment, the upper portion of the same will extend a suitable distance above the upper applying the same the sharpened hook ends edge of the belt or maybe on a level with the same, as may be desired, which depends upon the length of the device, and the hook 6 be in the position to receive the upper edge or waistband of the pantaloons, which when the parts are attached, as shown in the said Fig. 2, the undergarments will be supported by the pantaloons and the same be detachable therefrom.
I do not wish to limit myself to the precise construction of the said device, the main object in view being to construct a supporter that is detachable from the undergarment, but carried thereby, and a hook formed on said device and adapted to be hooked over the upper edge of the pantaloons for supporting said undergarment.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim is- 1. An improved garment-supporter formed of a single piece of wire and comprising the straight central portion, the upwardly-bent portions 4, the rearwardly-bent portions 5, the depending portions 3, the forwardly-bent portion 7, and the upwardly-bent pin portions 9, all arranged substantially as shown and described.
ends of said wire bent inwardly and pointed, to snbstantiallyias described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS MANNING.
Witnesses: I
JULIA E. KILLAM, N. H. MUDDIMAN.
