UNITED STATES EErcE.
PATENT BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 676,475, dated June 18, 1901.
Application filed December 22,1900- Serial No. 40,740. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.:
Be it known that I, RALPH SCHEUER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved buckle more particularly designed for mens belts and which is so constructed that a vertical displacement of the belt is avoided, while adjustment is permitted.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective View of my improved buckle. Fig. 21s a top View thereof; and Fig. 3, a section through the buckle, showing it applied to a garment.
The letter a represents the frame of a buckle having the usual tongue a on one side. At right angles to this tongue are arranged at the opposite side of the frame two downwardly-extending parallel bars b, which cross the tongue and are secured to the upper portion of frame a by means of a connectingplate b. The bars b are placed in a plane parallel to the frame a and at some distance back thereof, while the plate b is arranged transversely to the frame and constitutes an abutment that limits the downward move-v ment of the buckle.
In use the beltA is buckled around the body and the bars b are slipped from the top downward over the button or other fastening B, by which the two .flies D D of the trousers are connected. Thus the buckle, and consequently the belt, is secured in place so as to cover the upper edge of the trousers. At the same time a slight up-and-down adjustment of the belt is permitted, owing to the play of the bars b along the button B. V'Vhen the button strikes the abutment b', downward movement of the buckleis checked, so that an undue lowering of the belt is prevented.
What I claim is- A buckle composed of a frame, a pivoted tongue on one face of the same, and a pair of parallel bars which are projected transversely across the tongue and are secured to the other 'face of the frame, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at New York city, county and State of New York, this 21st day of December, 1900.
RALPH SGHEUER.
