llNiTn STATES PATENT Tron.
JOSEPH M. FLANNERY, OF BRADDOOK, PENNSYLVANIA.
SKIRT SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 644,903, dated March 6, 1900. Application filed June 8, 1897. Serial No. 689,197. (No model.)
To Ml whom it may concern-.-
Be itknown that I, J OSEPH M. FLANNERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Braddock, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and. exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of. this specification, in which-- Figure 1 indicates a perspective view of my improved skirt-supporter. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are details of modification of the same. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the end of the skirt-band.
My invention relates to devices adapted to be secured around the waist and to support the skirt, my object being to produce a device of this general character to which the rear of the skirt may be attached at different points and then adjusted properly by the slidable extension upon the flexible band and to this purpose it consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter specifically described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which like letters and numerals indicate like parts wherever they occur.
Referring to said drawings, 1 is a flexible band adapted to be secured around the waist, one end of the same being provided with a series of eyelet-holes a C6 and the other'end with a headed pin 1), adapted to engage in said eyelet-holes for this purpose. A slidable keeper 0 is adapted to maintain the said ends in close contact. 2 is a plate slidably mounted upon said band, the edge of said plate projecting or extending above the body of the band and having formed therein a number of vertical1ydisposed slots cl, the middle slot being of greater depth or length than the remaining slots and the said slots being adapted to receive buttons or other fasteners secured upon the band of the skirt or, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, with buttons 2 e, secured on the outer edges of the same to engage in holes in the ends of the skirt-band f, which may be, as shown in Fig. 5, provided with an enlarged piece g, preferably formed of leather.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. A skirt-supporter comprising a flexible band in one end of which is formed a series of eyelet-holes and the opposite end being provided with a headed pin adapted to engage said eyelet-holes, a slidable plate mounted on said band the upper edge of which projects or extends above the upper edge of the body of the band and in which is formed a number of vertical slots forming seats to engage fasteners on the band of the skirt, substantially as set forth.
2. A skirt-supporter comprising a flexible band in one end of which is formed a series of eyelet-holes the opposite end being provided with a headed pin adapted to engage said eyelet-holes, a slidable plate mounted on said band the upper edge of which projects or extends above the upper edge of the body of the band in which are formed vertically-disposed slots the middle slot being of greater length or depth than the remaining slots, the said slots forming seats to engage fasteners on the band of the skirt, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto affix my signature this 31st day of 'May, A. D. 1897.
JOSEPH M. FLANNERY. [n s] In presence of- GEO. B. PARKER,
WILLIAM J. BROWN.
