Be it known that I, AUGUST WM. SCHEUBER,

a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York,

have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Belt-Buckle and Purse or Bag, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device serviceable for clasping or securing a belt in place and also simultaneously serving as a purse or bag or receptacle for various objects; and the invention resides in the novel features of construction set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure lis a perspective View of the device. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the device. Fig. 3 is a sectional side View of the device.

In the drawings is shown a plate or base l, of suitable material. Sheet metal is serviceable for the plate, but other material might be made to answer. This plate has hooks or engaging devices 2 and also lugs 3. The lugs are preferably placed opposite the hooks. These lugs form bearings or supports for pintles or pivot-pins 4. Two pins are shown, one at each lug; but manifestly'one pivot-pin might be extended clear through from one lug 3 to the other.

The purse or bag frame comprises the sections or jaws 5 and 6, adapted to open and shut. The pivot 4. serves for practically jointing the jaws to one another, and said pivot also allows the frame 5 6 to swing from and to the plate l. The jaws have a suitable clasp or lock-as, for example, the knobs 7or any suitable device for holding the frame closed.

Vhen the jaws are open or swing apart, acl cess can be had to the interior of the purse or bag 8.

A belt 9, having an end or portion suitably placed against plate l or an eyelet of such belt being slipped over stud 10, rising from said plate, and the frame or jaw 5 being swung against the stud or engaged by hooks 2, the belt will be held or clasped between the plate and the purse. The hooks 2, by engaging only the jaw 5, as seen in Fig. 1, will hold said jaw to the plate, while leaving the other jaw 6 free to swing from and to the jaw 5 for opening and closing the bag or purse, these jaws 5 and 6 being capable of swinging independently of one another. The purse can thus be opened or closed without disturbing or loosening the belt, which latter can remain clasped between the jaw 5 and the plate while the purse or bag is being opened and shut. The other end of the belt can be suitably secured to the plate, as by a loop or fastening part 1l on the latter.

The plate, if seen tit, can be made of openworlc or perforated or frame-like. v

The belt when placed about the body and clasped or held between the purse 8 and the plate l will be secured in place on the wearer,

and at the same time the purse or bag is readily accessible, and said purse or bag, moreover, is secure in place, so that it cannot be lost or stolen from the person. The purse or bag can be made of any suitable shape or size or material, so as to serve as a `receptacle or box for the reception of various contents, as may be desired-such, for example, as money or coin, matches, or other articles.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

` l. A combined belt-buckle and purse, consisting of a base-plate having outwardly-proj ecting lugs and hooks at its upper and lower edge portions, and a purs-e composed of hinged frame-sections supported at their baserby the outwardly projecting lug, and one of the frame-sections engaged with and held by said hooks, substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. A combined belt-buckle and purse, consistin g of a base-plate having outwardly-projecting lugs at its lower edge portion and engaging devices at its upper edge portion, and a purse composed of hinged frame-sections supported at their base by the outwardly-pro* jecting lugs, and one of said framesections held and retained by said engaging devices at the upper edge portion of the base-plate, substantially as and for the purposes described.
