moved and one wherein access may be readily had to the contents of the purse.

A further object of the invention is to provide the device with compartments for the reception of pins and buttons or other small articles, wherein such articles will be maintained separate from one another and from the other contents of the purse.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved clasp for securely attaching the purse to the belt of the wearer, thus obviating liability of the purse being lost or stolen.

With these and other objects in view the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is afront elevation of a purse and clasp embodying the invention and showing the former suspended from the latter. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the purse. Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the purse in open condition. Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal section through the purse on the line 4 4: of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a detail view of one of the foldable end members of the purse. Fig. 7 is a detail elevation of the pinand-button receptacle removed from the purse and in open position. Fig. 8 is a section through the clasp, taken on the line 8 8 of 1 and on an enlarged scale. Fig. 9 is a rear view of the clasp in open position. Figs. 10 and 11 are end elevations of modified forms of purses.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a purse composed of sheet metal or other suitable material and having a handkerchief-compartment2,open at its upper end,and a changecompartment 3, arranged at the front face of the handkerchief-compartment 2, the front Wall of the latter constituting the rear wall of the compartment- 3.

The end walls of the compartment 3 are com posed of a series of foldable sections or leaves 4, pivotally connected at their lower ends upon a common axle or pintle 5 and slidably connected at their upper ends by means of T- headed tongues 6, struck and laterally offset from the sections and engaged with transverse slots 7, formed in the sections by upstriking the tongues therefrom. From this arrangement it is apparent that the sections 4 will unfold relatively at their upper ends and swing at their lower ends upon the axis 5 for opening the purse, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 5, and will fold freely one upon another for closing the purse, as shown'in Fig. 2.

The front wall of the compartment 3 is of substantially U shape in cross-section, as seen in Fig. 5, and equipped at its upper edge with a press-button 8, carried by and designed for actuating a springcatch 9, designed for engagement with a keeper 10 to maintain the purse in closed position, while within the handkerchief-compartment 2 is a second compartment 11, separated from the handkerchiefcompartment by means of a partition 12, there being removably disposed Within the compartment 11 a box or receptacle 13, provided at its upper end with a knob or handpiece 14, Whereby it may be readily inserted or removed.

The receptacle 13 is divided by a partition 15 into an upper button-receiving compartment 16 and a lower compartment 17 ,.preferably containing a pin-cushion and equipped with a removable cap or cover 19, whereby access may be had to the pins, while the compartment 16 is provided at one side of the receptacle with a pivoted lid or cover 20, having thereon a spring-lip 21 for engaging the adjacent wall of the receptacle to maintain the lid in closed position.

The rear wall of the purse has formed thereon perforated ears 22 for the attachment of chains 23, whereby the purse is suspended from a clasp 2 1. This clasp, in accordance with my invention, comprises a front ornamental plate 25 and a rear engaging member or tongue 26, pivoted at its upper end to the plate 25 by means of a hinge-pintle 27, there being provided upon the rear face of the plate 25 a transversely-disposed and horizontal rearwardly-extending portion or flange 28 and upon the inner forward face of the tongue 26 engaging portions or spurs 29 30 upstruck from the tongue and of which the latter spur is sharpened. Fixed upon the clamping-tongue 26 at a point adjacent the pivot 27 is a recessed keeper 81, adapted for engagement by a movable catch 32, normally pressed to engaging position by means of a substantially U-shaped leaf-spring 33, engaged with and carried by the flange 28.

In practice when the clasp is to be applied to the belt the parts of the clasp will be opened by releasing the catch 32 from its keeper, and the tongue 26 will thereafter be inserted behind the belt and the front plate or portion again moved to closed position, whereupon the catch will automatically lock and the parts 28 and 29 will bite into the material of the belt, while the upwardly and inwardly projecting sharpened spur 30 will pierce the belt to prevent the clasp being moved or "working upward, as will be readily understood.

In Fig. lOI have illustrated a modified form of purse in which there is a central handkerchief-receiving compartment or holder 34 and a pair of change-compartments 35, disposed respectively on opposite sides of the central holder, while in Fig. 11 is shown a double purse from which the handkerchief-compartment is omitted, these purses being, however,

in other respects identical in construction and operation with that above described.

From the foregoing it is apparent that I produce a simple inexpensive device admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in view and one wherein ready access may be had to the various compartments or receptacles, it being understood that in attaining these ends minor changes in the details herein set forth may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus fully described .the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A purse comprising a front wall, a rear wall and end walls,the end walls each consisting of a plurality of t'oldable sections pivoted at one end upon a common axle and having their other ends connected for relative movement.

2. A purse comprising side and end walls, the latter walls each consisting ot'a plurality of foldable sections pivoted at one end upon a common axle, and slot-and-tongue connections between the other ends of the sections adapting them for relative transverse movement.

3. A purse comprising side and end walls, the latter walls consisting each of a plurality of foldable sections, a common pivot for the inner ends of all the sections, and tongue-andslot connections between the outer ends of the sections adapting them for relative transverse movement.

A. A purse having end walls each composed of a plurality of foldable sections provided respectively at their outer ends with transverse slots a stud upon each section engaging the slot of the adjacent section, and a common pivot forthe inner ends of all the sections.

5. A purse having end walls each composed of a plurality of foldable sections, engaging studs struck from the normally outer ends of said sections to produce transverse slots, the stud on each section being engaged with the slot of the adjacent section, and a common pivot for the inner ends of all the sections.
