Description

UNITED STATES .ATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BELT-CLASPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,914, dated November `20, 1866.
To all whom 'it may concern:
l Be it known that we, OTTO KROMER` and CHARLES OHLEMAGHER, of Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Machine-Belt Clasps; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the same,`reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specitication, in which Figure l is an outside view of the belt when clasped; Fig. 2, au edge view of the same; Fig. 3, a View of the clasp.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several views.
Fig. 3 is the clasp, which may be made of brass, iron, or any other suitable material. The clasp consists of two parts, A and B. A is a straight ilat or round bar, and in length more or less, according to the width of the belt for which it is intended. O are arms or tongues projecting from the bar A, and which may be more or less in number, according to the width of the belt. These tongues terminate in a lo'op or eye, D, which may be either round or square, as may be thought best, and through which is passed the rod B, for the purpose of coupling.
The manner of applying this buckle or clasp is as follows: The ends of the belt F, Fig. 1, being properly prepared by squaring, so
that they may t evenly and smooth-the number of holes, also, pbeing made for the reception of the tongues-are then brought together-that is, the two ends of the belt are l laid iiat upon each other, 'the tongues are then inserted through the holes, and the rod B then slipped through the loops or eyes. The
belt, when thus coupled, is then spread out,
ing out.
It will be seen that by this arrangement the belt is at all times secured y equally from side to side, and that the tongues cannot come in contact with the face of the pulley, whereby they are caused to wear away and soon break.
What we claim as our improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bar or back A, the tongues G, rod or slide B, as arranged in combination with the set forth. .y
