Description

w. CLARK, or TALL'AHASSEE, FLORIDA.
Letters' Patent No. 80,139, dated July 21, 1868.
IMPROVED DOUBLE BUCKLE.`
@te dgehirle tristan in in tlgts ietttts ntmt rmt mating yn't nt tige same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
p Be it known that I, E. W. CLARK, of Tallahassee, in the county of Leon, and State of Florida, have invented a new and improved Double Buckle; and I do .hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andr exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled inthe art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming' part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in buckles for the backs of vests -and pantaloons, anzi for other purposes, and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described.
The drawing represents the buckle as when in use, it being attached to straps, which represent the fasteningstraps of vests and pantaloons, or straps for other purposes, or for the fasteningr together of belts used in machinery.
The buckle is composed of four pieces, two of which pieces, a a, form two bows, and the ends of the buckle.
The other two, Z1 b, form the tongues, and journals form the bows.
c c e c are the tongues. I
Each of the pieces has a tongue for each end of the buckle, which pass through'thc straps, as seen'- in the drawing. p I u The pieces are so bent that journalsd are formed, which stand at right angles with the tongues, around which journals the bows are clasped, forming joints, and allowing all the necessary flexibility to the buckle.
By making a buckle in this manner, I get a. very simply-formed `double buckle,'with a double tongue at eachl end. I i
The advantages of this method are many and obvious.
To attach it to the straps, no sewing is required.
In cloth, the points of the tongues will. readily penetrate, and in leather or similar material, round holes only are required. i l
Buckles made in 'this manner are much stronger than those of ordinary construction, and they are very cheaply made.
Having'thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A double buckle, with double tongues for each end, formed of four pieces, arranged substantially as heren shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 8th day of June, 1868. l
i E` W. CLARK.
