Description

DANIEL G. BUTTS, F NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR TO IVORY GARTER COlll- PANY, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, A CORIORATION 0F LOUISIANA.
GAnMENT-surron'rnn.
To all whom z't may concern.'
Be it known that I, DANIEL G. BUTTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and usefulmprovements 'in Garment- Supporters ;and I do hereby declare the foll lowing to be a full, clear, and exact descripfor connecting the opposite ends 0f the limbencircling elastic band, when assembling the vlatter around the limb of the wearer.
The invention consists in certiain novel details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be hereinafter described in the preferred form and the novel features thereof pointed out in the claims at the end of the specication.
Referring to the -accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hose supporter provided with the fastening means of the present improvements.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of thetwo mem'- bers of said fastening means assembled in interlocking relation.
Fig. 3 is .an enlarged detail view of the hook member of said fastening means.
` Fig. et is an end elevation of the same.
Like characters of reference in the several figures indicate the same parts.
As shown, the supporter of the present invention embodies a limb encircling member A which is usually made of elastic webbing,
'i one end of which is looped through a ring memberB and attached to a slide C, whereby the length ofthe limb encircling member may be adjusted. Preferably, the ring member B is formed substantially broad and flat for purposes which will hereinafter appear. A .loop of fabric is fastened in the ring member B toform two free or independent arms or reaches E and E', which respectively support the twomembers F, F of a clasp for engaging the garment to be supported. This clasp for engagement with the garment to be supported may be of any preferred construc- Bpedcatlon of Letters Patent.

tion and forms no tion.
Thev present invention relates particularly to the fastening means for assembling the limb encircling member A around the limb of the wearer. At the end of said member A opposite the ring member B is a hook member D. This hook member is preferably constructed in one piece and consists essentially of a plurality of cross pieces d, d, d2
part of the present invenconnected by the sides D', D2 of said member. The end of the webbing is passed between the uppermost cross pieces d, "'and around the bottom cross piece in orderto hold the parts together. The hook member D is also formed with an outwardly projecting ring-like portion D3 formed with an 'outwardly curved offset D4. This offset D4 is preferably located centrally of the ringlike portion D3 of the member and projecting inwardly from the offset and also slightly upwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4L is a ltongue d* adapted to interlock with the ring B. The ring-like ortion D3 of the hook member is preferab y comparatively thin and broad, as shown, and the fiat surfaces aforded on each side ofthe central offset D4 are ada ted to have a bearing enratenteu Nov. 19, 1918. i
gagement with t e ring B when the two members are assembled into interlocking relation. Thisrelieves the strain on the tongue d4 and thereby greatly reduces the danger of said tongue being bent or broken away from the hook member. The tongue itself merely forms a means for retaining the two members of the fastening together laterally, and bears little, fif any, of the strain.
The two members B and D of the fastening are preferably formed of sheet celluloid or other non-metallic material, the construction being such that the members may be cut from sheets of this material-by means of dies and cutters, without necessitating complicated operations such as are usually necessary in the formation of metal members for the samepurpose. If desired, the ring-like portion D3 of the hook member may be bent `piece d2. T is permits eas slipping of said tongue over the ring mem er B. It will be noted that the broad thin formation of the ring-like portion D8 of the hook member af- 4 an oset outwardly curving from the plane iords considerable strength without sacrificof the ring-like portion and a tongue inwardly projecting `and with flat bearing surfaces on each fromv said oiset portion adapted to interlock withsaid ring member, the' surfaces of the ringlike portion of the hook member on each side of the oifset and tongue affording bearings for the ring membei` when the two members are brought into interlocking relation. A
'2.' A. fastening of the :character described comprising a iiat'broad ring member forming an eye, and a cooperating hook member having a broad tion formed with an offset outwardly curv.- ing from the plane of the ring-like portion side of said offset adapted to engage the flat surface of said ring, and a'tongue inwardly proback into place if the hook member formingan eye,
i ers and the like,
substantially ring-like porjecting from the o'ii'set adapted to 'interlock with said ring member.
`3. A clasp member for. garment supporters and the. like, comprising l a plurality of spaced connected bands adapted to be engaged by a loop of' a garment supporter, and a broad outwardly projecting,
substantially ring-bke portion formed with an offset. outwardly 'curving from the plane of the ringlike vportion and with a tongue rearwardly projecting from said oifset, .the surfaces of the ring-like .portion o set and tongue being adapted to engage a locking ring.
4. -A clasp member for garment support-.I formed wholly of non-me tallic material, comprising a plurality of spaced lconnected bands adapted to be engaged by a loop of a garment supporter, and a broad, outwardly projecting substantially ring-like portion formed with an oiiset .out-
wardly curving from the plane of the ringlike lportion and with iiat bearing surfaces n each side of the oii'- on eachV side of .said oiset adapted to engage a locking ring land a tongue inwardly projecting from said offset, said tongue being .positioned intermediate the bearing surfaces.
