ATENT OFFICE WILLIAM U. BOHM, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. BUCKLE FOR WAlST-BELTS.
Specification forming part oi' `Letters PatentNc. Sgg, dated January 27,1863.
To all whom t may concern:
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM U. BOEM, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful improvement in the manufacture ofbuckles with buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description of tue construction and operation-ot the same, reference being hadto the drawings.
The improvement consists in the construction. of the buckles,-as follows: A riinis used as usual for buckles. A clasp, C, is placed in the center of the rim formed as au ornament or plain, which turns on a joint. On the' back of the clasp is placed three or more prongs', as D D D. 1u Fig. l or 3 said clasp or ornament is furnished with a snap or bolt worked by a spring, so as to prevent the clasp 2 or 3, with a bar to turn, as A in Fig. '1. Underneath the clasp C is placed a crosspiece, G, lreaching from one side of the. open space in the rim to the other, which leads the belt when pushed through the buckle. 'A bar, Fig. 4, is constructed on back of the rim, which inthe center underneath the cross-piece G on said bar, Figa-4, the belt is secured. 'lhe bar, Fig. 4, furnished with a button, Hso as to keep the belt on its place, also withV three holes,
fff, for the prongs D -D D to pass through in! to the bar. By buckling, the clasp C is opened, as in Fig. 1,"and the loose end of the belt will be slid through vbetween the bar, Fig. 44,-an'( .the cross-piece G; then when closingthe clasp 'C the prongs D D D will pass through the belt right into the bar, Fig. 4, and both ends ofthe belt will be secured. The clasp- Gis also made to open fromy either end or side of the buckle. according to choice,- as is seen in Fig.'3, which opens endwise.
The drawings will more fully and in detail explain the improvement forwhich a patent is desired. v
What Iclaim therefore as my invention and improvement, and :desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` The entire machinery of the-buckle, (with the exception of the rim,) as set forth in the foregoing' specification, together Vwith the ap= vplication and use of said machinery tol the purposes set forth in thevpetition and specification. n f
VIn witness ,whereof I have -hereunto subscribed my name, at the city of San Francisco,
` State of California, this 7th day of October,
In presence of-l- F. W. CRAIG, Y P. B..C.oRNWALL,
