SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,079, dated January 12, 1897.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK EDWARD THOMP- SON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wassaic, in the county of Duchess and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files, of which the following is a specification, refer: ence being had to the accompanying drawin gs, forming a part thereof, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout the several views.
This invention relates to files for bills, letters, and other similar documents; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is also designed to serve as an advertising medium.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a plan or front view of my improved file, and Fig. 2 a central vertical section thereof.
In the practice of my invention I provide a disk or plate 5, which is preferably circular in form, and which is provided atone side with a transverse opening 6, by which it may be suspended from any suitable support, and formed in the lower side thereof is a segmental or circular slot 7, and in the lower portion or wall of said slot are formed radial notches or recesses 8. I also provide a fiat strip or bar 9, which is preferably composed of metal a and which is provided at its upper end with an inwardly and downwardly curved hook 10, said hook being adapted to be inserted through the slot 7 and to enter one of said notches or recesses, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and said strip or bar is provided at its lower end with an ordinary springclamp 11, which is designed to hold the bills, letters, and other papers or documents. In practice I provide as many of these strips or bars as there are notches or recesses 8, and the central and upper portions of the disk or plate 5 is adapted to serve as an advertising medium Serial No. 59 7,538. or to have any desired form, kind, or class of advertisements placed thereon.
It will be apparent that the strips or bars 9 will always be suspended vertically from the disk or plate 5, and this disk or plate may be made of any desired size, and the strips or bars 9 may be made of any desired material; and,
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The herein-described file, which consists of a disk or plate, having a segmental or circular slot in one side thereof, in the outer wall of which are formed a plurality of notches or recesses, and strips or bars which are suspended therefrom, and provided with clamps at their lower ends, substantially as shown and described.
2. The herein-described file, which consists of a disk or plate, having a segmental or circular slot in one side thereof, on the outer wall of which are formed a plurality of notches 0r recesses, and strips or bars which are suspended therefrom, and provided with clamps at their lower ends, said disk or plate being circular in form, and said strips or bars being provided at their upper ends with hooks which are adapted to enter said notches or recesses, substantially as shown and described.
3. The herein-described file, which consists of a disk or plate, having a segmental or circular slot in one side thereof, in the outer wall of which are formed a plurality of notches or recesses, and strips or bars which are suspended therefrom, and provided with means at their lower ends for securing bills,and documents thereto, substantially as shown and described.
